Some folk have no respect for other people's property, a mentality of if they want summat they'll just nick it. Regrettably if it doesn't turn up within 24 hrs it's probably long gone and broken up for spares to sell on Ebay.

Hopefully your insurance company won't dick you about and you'll get paid out promptly.

Fingers crossed for you matey....it makes me think what if there had been a tracker of some sorts....say a phone sim that you could ring to activate it and home in on it???

Trackers are pretty useless these days even in cars. They usually get ripped out within the first couple of minutes and dumped at the roadside.

What do thieves steal a gtr for ,is it parts to sell or a whole bike ,I thought if you never had the fob then it canot be started , even parts are not worth that much ,, to push one along by scooter mush be hard work , bloody thing weights a ton ,, :biker3:
Title: Re: BEWARE
Post by: Tay on July 19, 2017, 10:51:15 PM
Usually its for parts, the sum of the parts are often greater than the bike itself, I guess this applies if you are moving on a nicked bike.

I've bought some stuff off Ebay but never really considered whether it had been nicked or otherwise until now.

I know  trackers can be ripped out.....but a small black box could be hidden in amongst all the electrics somehow?? if the bastards don't know what it looks like or where it is, it's a step in the right direction.  :2guns:

Datatag wont help unless somebody checks the parts, and I for one have not.

I also have a tracker installed, it's not that you'll find and rip out that easy.  But where there is a will there is a way.   Oxygen thieves just leave it in an abandoned lock up for a few days to check if there is a tracker on it.

There is no decent answer, locks get cut in mins, if they cant they'll cut the disc, all you can really do is make it harder for them. There isnt a system on the market that is 100% foolproof.

There are even cases of people having trackers attached to their bikes when parked up and essentially followed home,  some are bloody accurate, they cost £10 and depending on the mode they are in can run for a few days.

Sad world we live it.

its been put on facebook but it makes no difference there is a lot of it going around so just be careful.
London bikers are having a ride out around London on the 6th of november...what the f***s that all about, there should be a gathering of people who have had their bikes took from their towns or cities as well as Police and go round all the bike breakers checking, there is one in ormskirk which used to be renown for it...sorry for going off im just Peed off

With the amount of portable battery powered cutting tools available now it's a nightmare they can carry a disc cutter in there pockets it's job done we just make it more time consuming and hopefully but sadly they look elsewhere  :censored:

 :censored: lowlifes.  :gun_bandana:
Insurance seem to think that these days.
A friend had the same problem even though the scum were caught on cctv.
Personally I think some companies tell their staff to be suspiscious  of that.
I guess there are a few out there who take the pics and we all get tarred with the same brush.

My insurance are chasing the third party insurers after my accident and they are dragging their heels.
Frustrating but  :censored: all I can do about it.

Does this make sense? i have never made a claim from any insurance before and i have done with Mce insurance for the theft of my GTR granted i did tell them i had my bike stored in my shed but on the day of the theft i had to leave my bike in the back garden CHAINED THROUGH THE WHEEL AND SWINGARM .Because I had had a ramp, toolboxes, and cupboards compressor, 2 trolleys and work bench delivered.
I also told a company called Examworks who investigate for mce and other insurers they asked for pictures of the shed inside and out, which i sent to them bare in mind the shed is 20ft long and 10ft wide at one half of it and 16ft wide at the other.
Bare in mind both these companies always state all calls are recorded, last week Mce made me an offer to which i agreed, today i got a call to say my excess had doubled because i had left the bike outside.
So in affect i have told the truth and have not covered anything up,they made me an offer which i excepted and then it goes down by £1800 because it was outside which they already knew when i reported it in july.

Is there an Ombudsman you can take your concerns to? If you were honest initially about where the bike was stolen from and based on that info, you were made an offer which you accepted and then they change the terms and decrease your offer by £1800 surely that can't be right can it?

Write to MCE telling them that you do not accept their revised offer and ask them for clear and unbiased reasoning behind it. Then write to the Financial Ombudsman Service who will explain exactly what information they want. The FOS completely neutral and act or judge upon actual fact and information rather than opinion.

I think a lot of policies do say this.  if you declare it as stored in a garage or sililar, they will double the XS if a theft takes place within a certain distance from home if the bike isn't in said garage/shed

When My policy was renewed they stated when I'm at home it has to be in the shed at all times or it's void and not insured which I think is a bit harsh as you may be home a few hours before going out on the bike but I don't risk it . You know what they are like the tiniest loophole to get out of paying out  :censored:

Similar with the car, the insurance company asked me where the car would be kept overnight, depends on whether I'm working or not. Who can say where the car or bike will be, you could be at work, on holiday etc, there has to be some flexibility to the policy surely.

My own policy states that if the motorcycle is within a mile of the home address, it must be stored in a locked garage between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Provided that the bikes are in the locked garage, no further security measures are required.

The insurer has reviewed the specifications for the bike garage and confirmed matters in writing.

Same as Flatfour .. must be locked in the garage between those hours ... nothing else required. ( except that the steering lock is on the disc lock is on the roller garage door is the best there is and 2 cars in front of that ... I think its pretty safe ! )
