Lost the smegging key out of the fob.... ...got to the hotel in Rouen on Friday, unloaded the panniers/topbox into the room no problems. Sat morning after brekkies loaded said panniers /topbox...set off after a few miles needed to fill up so we pulled in for fuel....... NO SMEGGING KEY  I knew this was going to happen, I even ordered 2 blanks off our local key shop, but when it came to cutting them the blank would shoot out of the clamp.
After about 6 attempts I told the guy to forget it as I wasn't going to trust the key after all the trouble....it's more likely to jam the lock. Most of the big stores in France all cut keys so I'm hoping I will be able to get a couple....fingers crossed.
You are not alone.
It happened to me about five years ago, but luckily I found the key in the gravel of my driveway.
Do you have emergency fob that has a key as well. All in all these fobs are a nuisance.
You do know that if you turn ignition switch to the right past on position the switch can be pulled out and there is a key beneath it.

Correctamundo
I got a couple of spares cut with blanks from a Timpsons or similar key cut store
I think I had a spare cut for a £5 at a cobblers.

Yup....luckly I had that in the top pocket of my jacket.....I do know about the "hidden key"....it's a PITA....

it's a PITA....
Really ?
Every bike I have had uses the same key in the ignition to open the fuel filler or remove the seat.
Except my ZZR600
That had two allen bolts to hold the seat on,
Which needed an allen key to remove
Which lived in the tool kit
Which did not fit in the faring stowage
But it did fit under the seat
Which needed an allen key to remove
Which..........................................
Well you get the idea :gun_bandana:
My sympathies...
Having just finished my first tour with the bike the one of first things we did on return was order a couple of spare keys.
Primarily because Carole was hopping round impatiently wanting her bag out of the cases whilst I was still fannying round with my gloves and helmet and trying to remember which pocket I had stuffed the fob in. Now she has one of her own.
Secondly the little key in the transponder seemed to be sliding in and out all too easily as the trip went on. There will be a bit of black insulation tape around that soon and it will become the reserve, the main duties will be undertaken by one of the spares.
Now I have the spare key on my key ring......the fob stays zipped up in my top jacket pocket never  to be taken out unless it's an emergency....I have no intentions of losing that. I've not found a key shop so far in our holiday as we're out in the sticks...but we're off over to Angouleme later this week.
