Title: Likes/Dislikes - First 2k miles/6 months
Post by: Kylinski on June 03, 2017, 07:40:07 PM
Well folks, first 2k miles clocked up and 6 months of ownership from my previous ZZR14

Likes

Riding position
Shaft drive
Centre stand
Dual brakes
Aux power
Wind/weather protection
Heated grips
Smooth engine/gearbox (no 1st gear "clunk")
Room to mount my accessories

Dislikes

Styling (pinstriping!!! Really??)
Manoeuvring at low speeds
How can I put this . . . It's not very exciting to ride  (compared to the ZZR).

Over all I'm liking this bike, though had I not owned 2 ZZR's I think I would like it even more

And to be fair, I did switch to a GTR for something different.

It's  never going to be a ZZR, it may share the same basic engine but it is re-tuned for touring

I have wider and pulled back bars which made a big difference all round. Also had it remapped. One of the best things ive done.Good tourque from low revs right through the range .The shaft drive zaps a bit of power but i like the way it gathers speed.Almost to easy to hit three figures. :mfr_lol: fantastic mile muncher

Glad you're liking the GTR, it does have something about it, I dont get the adrenalin surge I used to get on the ZZR, I loved my ZZR, but it was a license killer in my hands!!.

I agree with all your pro's although I'm hating the battery position, the ZZR was seat off boom, its there.. GTR is :censored: not great.

I was out for 5-6 hrs on the GTR today with the wife, something that never would have happened with the ZZR, in fact I couldnt have managed 2hrs on the ZZR without some serious Chiropractic care !!

The wife did suffer with her knees though on the GTR, partially to do with the armour I reckon but also the foot position, she was having to place her heels on the peg just try alleviate the pain.

I've ordered her a set of extenders from the US, so we'll see what they are like.

I've just racked up 1100 miles on mine.  But will be banging on some more soon.

I don't want to start an argument, but try 5000 miles in 2 weeks. I did it on my GTR, my mate on his ZZR.

We started off "We'll break every 100 miles"... but because of the riding position etc, my mate soon decided "We'll break every hour..." - way more often than necessary for me.

Don't get me wrong, the ZZR is a beast. But the GTR is a mile-munching machine that just happens to be able to go faster than any sensible touring bike should be able to

Cheers

Paul B.

I guess almost every bike will be a compromise in one way or another,  the hard part is deciding  what you can live with or without and what you can add to the bike to customise it to suit your needs. The alternative is to have a garage full of different bikes if you can afford it. Maybe an ECU reflash will help.
