Hello from Norway!! Don't own a GTR yet,but are thinking of buying one.
Got a really good deal for a restricted -08 in silver. It's brand new, never been on the road.
Anyone got any data to compare the restricted/non restricted bikes.
0-60mp/h and roll on numbers in 5th-6th gear. On the kawa home site this numbers are posted:
Torque Full 136 N.m {13.9 kgƒ.m} / 6,200 rpm. Restricted 121 N.m {12.3 kgƒ.m} / 4,500 rpm
HP Full 114 kW {155 HP} / 8,800 rpm. Restricted 78.2 kW {106 HP} / 8,000 rpm
I think the top end will suffer most.
I'm riding mostly solo,on back roads.
There are some talk about removing the "flies".Will this have the same effect on the restricted
engine? I like torque:-)
Hope you understand my english and can give me some answers
Hi TriggerHappy and welcome to the forums.
Do bikes have to be restricted in Norway? Either way, I believe its easy enough to undo the restriction. In France they are restricted to 100BHP which will (I assume) get you plenty of fun.
No they don't have to be restricted,it's a option you get.
The bikes are a lot cheaper restricted.
Because we have HP taxes.
It's the same bikes/HP as they get in france 106.
The restriction is a easy fix,it's only a clamp mounted on
the wires to the trottle. This stops the trottles from fully open.
Big trouble with the law if you get caught cheating.
Finally... a stupid law in Norway that beats the hell out of denmark! Yeah..... ;D
On the other hand... be happy... You only have to pay for the bike once, eh?
GTR1400 pricetag in DK: dkr. 310.000,-
Wow!! Even more expensive in Denmark!!!
2011 GTR in Norway: 269000,- Nkr + a few tousand for shipping and clearing the bike.
Restricted are ca. 20000,- Nkr cheaper.
The one I have in sigt is a 08 brand new.
They sell it for ca 210000,-Nok. Gonna trade in my -99 ST1100.
A little afraid of buying it and find out that it's underpowered.
Can get it back to full power legaly but then i have to pay taxes, the workshop
and the local control office for cars,mc osv.
And a lot of paper work.
Easyer to buy fullpower, but much more expensive
I'm gonna use the bike for touring and commuting to work
Don't need a million HP but it have to have lowdown torque
so i can pass car or a house on wheels without useing all of the gears.
If you know anybody who read frenc, ask them to seek the internet for data
for the GTR in france . They must have bikemagazines with test data in france.
The French restricted GTR's have different air intakes (trumpets) from the air-box to the throttle bodies.
To de-restrict it these need to be changed for the unrestricted ones.
Unless you de-restrict the bike (or buy an unrestricted one) you will never get full torque.
Removing the flies may improve low end torque but not by as much as de-restricting the bike.
Besides, if I understand the rules, if you change anything on a restricted bike, you will get penalised.
I suggest that you pay the extra and get the unrestricted bike.
I've ridden a restricted GTR and while it's adequate power, it's not exciting.
But then I'm a power junkie and can't wait until I can afford to get the ECU reprogrammed.
Either that or else until I can afford to buy a ZZR1400 to park next to my 1400GTR. ;D
Here in Norway they are restriced with a clamp that keeps you from getting full trottle.
If the flies are removed you will get more torque not so much HP i think?
(Arrest me if I'm wrong.)
Then they can't punish me,there are'nt any torque taxes.
But I think I'm going for the non restricted, less to worry about.
Going the call the dealer and ask for a good deal for a non restricted.
Thank you for feedback.
See there are issues regarding screens to fit the bike/rider
I see the screen tilts forward when it get rised, dosent this make more buffing?
Much better if the screen have moved up in the same angle.
Somebody have any thoughts about this?
I think non-restricted is best, whilst 106BHP is still a fair clout, dont forget the GTR isnt a lightweight bike, i fear when it's restricted the power delivery will feel a little 'soft'........i dont get it?...if i was restricted in Power, then i would buy a machine that is designed to perform at that BHP range.....
As for your English, its perfectly understandable so no worries there, but if you struggle with something, let me know and i will translate for you ;D
Screens, all depend on rider size and torso length, as the top lip of the screen tilts forward it can create buffeting, but bigger screens create almost a vacuum behind them, so you get a feeling of some-one pushing you in the back of the head?...its all a bit trial and error, some like PUIG, some like MRA, some like CalSci...it's a matter of taste. For me i use a MRA Vario, and i am 188cm but have a long torso, i do get some buffeting, but its a compromise with that and ot ruining the looks of the bike
Thank you. I'm sure there will be some questions later.
Think I'm gonna start with the taller original screen, get it for free
from the dealer.
Hello TRIGGERHAPPY and Welcome !
As you can tell everyone here is very happy with their Gtr and I have no doubt that you will be too !
Look forward to hearing more about life outside the UK ;D
Thank you, shall up date my experienses with the GTR as soon as i get on it
and start riding it. Going to order it tomorrow, hope i don't have to wait to long for they can deliver it.
There are some recalls for the -08 model,do you or someone know what they where?
Gonna get the dealer to fix the recalls before i pick it up.Just want to be sure they get all done.
I have read all posts on this forum, and are very pleased with the frendly and respect full answers.
Are member on a US. gsxr forum and many are realy mean. If you ask a question somebody think is
to easy or silly they don't answer the question. They just tell you how stupid you are.
There are some that are seriusly, but they are few.
So keep up the the good work folks. The world needs happy faces.
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Until you have ridden an unrestricted one.
Then you will hate your restricted one. >:(
It is a BIG difference between 106PS and 160PS.
It also makes a big difference even at lower Rpm as torque throughout the rev range is higher.
Besides, as the French government is now starting to admit, limiting power has almost no effect on motorcycle accident rates.
They are consistently 2nd or 3rd worst in the EU for motorcycle accident and fatalities, even when you exclude mopeds.
Italy is usually worst and Germany normally is 3rd/2nd.
UK is way down the list but we have less motorcyclists per 1000 population.
THe problem in France is that we don't do difference between motorbike that requires a license and the one that doesn't (125cc and less).
I am sure that there are a huge gap between us (licensed one's) and those stupid 125cc driver.
If you wanna have fun? Have a cup of coffee at a french crossing in Paris and you'll see some amazing stuff made by those wreakless drivers
Ordered the GTR today. The dealer gave me a good price on the same bike -08 non restricted.
Tradeing in my ST1100.Going to pick it up next saturday. Feels like a year,OMG I'm gonna be restless.
Sleepless nights, and a big fat smile. Nobody knows but you guys. You live only twice......before and after
buying the dream machine. Broke but happy.
The GTR comes in Nautron silver with the originale large top case with back rest and colored matched top shell, larger original screen, gps mount, inner liners and tank pad. Heated grips are ordered.Gonna install them my self. The original muffler will be changed as soon as the engine are done breaking in. It just don't match the look of the bike, sorry. The flies will also be removed,I'm a lowdown torque fan. Anyone got some experiense on the Freeflow system muffler? Buying a slipon for the looks, but it has to sound ok and have a ok performance. Other alternatives are very welcome.
Anyone having toughts, issues or tips about removing the flies or the muffler exchange.
Please post, always interesting to read your toughts
This is far out. MILF: Motorbike I Wanna F... Oh! i need help!!! ;D
I sense that you are a bit giddy! ;D
You need to change your handle from TriggerHappy to TriggerPulled. ;)
I've never even heard of the Freeflow system. Can't find anything on Google either.
So, I'll assume you meant free flowing mufflers.
I have a Two Brothers V.A.L.E. M5-Titanium on my GTR.
It changes the sound to a low growl (with the P1 Powertip fitted) which rises to a wild SHRIEK at higher revs.

When I bought it they were one of only two companies to make a zorst for the GTR. The other was Area-P.
Now there are 1,000s of them from cheapy-cheapies to Acropovic.
At that time most insurance companies said "Huh??" when you told them it was a 1400GTR.
I actually had one idiot on the phone who said there is no such bike and that I had made it up. <LOL>
I told him to try picking up that weeks copy of MCN, that months copy of BIKE, and offered to email him links to several websites with writeups as well as links to the 1400GTR pages on the www.kawasaki.co.uk website.
He still insisted I had made it up so I told him he was a f***wit and hung up.
All I can say to AVIVA/Norwich Union is that if ya pays peanuts, ya gets Monkeys. <LOL>
What is being giddy,LoneWolf? My english are a bit rusty :)
Found the slip-on on E-bay.

Looks ok,but no dynochart.
As for knowing about the GTR I have to admit,I hardly did know about it my self.
Did think of it as a ZZR1400 with hardcases and an adjusable screen.
Just for the record,I really like the ZZR,but not what I was looking for this time
Being all focused on the 1000 R bikes for the last 7-8 years.I wanted a touring bike.I bought the ST in april this
year.Having owned one 12 years ago, that I was very plased with.I went down the safe line
and bougt one again. But after having almost new bikes, this suddenly felt old and heavy. And with a few anoying
issues on top. I decided to get rid of it.
Started looking for a new bike, and settled for the FJR.Phoned the dealer where i bought the ST,they also sell Yamaha but he told me to check out the GTR. Since there have beeing no looking back.It just looks so good
and me beeing tall, 6.4, I fitted perfectly on the bike. And after read all i can find about the GTR ,I'm pretty sure I'm doing the right ting. My only conserns are the screen size and the allready mentioned muffler.
But this are things that are pretty simple to fix.
Well at 6'4" myself i can tell you that if you want no wind on you at all you need the CalSci XL screen.
I have the older +6" but would love the newer +7.5".
If you prefer a sporty feel then there are plenty of lower screens to choose from.
With my +6" screen down the wind hits my lower chest and the wind around my head is smooth.
With the screen fully up I just get some small buffeting from turbulence from cars and trucks.
Giddy is dizzy, like when you spin around too much.
I can't comment on the exhaust as I have never seen one of these.
The most popular one on this forum seems to be the Remus Hexacone or maybe the Beowulf
http://www.beowulf-performance-products.com/default.asp (http://www.beowulf-performance-products.com/default.asp)
Beowulf is lovely..i have one ...decent bit of kit, at a decent price...sounds lovely on the 'over run' ;D
Winston has a Beowulf can on his GTR and on the rare ocacsions he lets me ride with him I always know where he is because I can hear him growling behind me.
At least I think the growling is from the Beowulf..... ;D
