I suppose a few of you guys will already know about this free software program called Tyre.....http://www.tyretotravel.com/download-tyre/download-tyre-basic/ (http://www.tyretotravel.com/download-tyre/download-tyre-basic/)
My mate has it for when they go to Spain, they like to go off road... I've downloaded and I've made a run for day 1 when we're over in France...start at the gite and finish back there.
I've loaded into my Garmin, but when I click on the saved route it shows the map of where we want to go, but if I click GO it reroutes from where we are this weekend here in the UK???.
Thinking about it, when I click go from here, is the s-nav just sorting out a route from here to the start point of "Day 1"??? then will run that program when we get there??
When I load a custom route on to my Garmin 660, I can see the route.
When I click 'GO' and I am not at the initial waypoint the Garmin asks if I want to navigate to start of route.
It will then send me by [quickest/shortest/whatever your navigation settings are] to the initial waypoint.
I used to use Tyre route app and loved it, however it has moved on a few notches and is now called MyRoute-App. I use this all the time for planning routes and you can send routes from your PC/iPad/phone direct to the GPS wirelessly (to a TomTom 550)
I used tyre a while back early August. Now they have stopped supporting it and trying to make you buy the one you mentioned when I installed on my garmin the route was to the left of the roads :censored: I ended up putting the postcode of my destination in the Garmin so unless you intended to purchase the new one beware 👍
Agree it is a bummer that they have stopped supporting Tyre, you used to get the premium version free if you had a TomTom Rider.
I paid for the premium version of MyRoute App at the start when it was a one time fee, it has now gone to a yearly subscription :(
When using this app I have found you need use the maps (drop down menu selected) which best suits your gps, ie Garmin or TomTom (the maps differ).
Depending on the age of GPS, the older systems make you go back to a specific waypoint, the newer versions of TomTom realise you are close or are heading for the next waypoint and send you on your way. When planning using MyRoute it is best to zoom in and check the way points to ensure your waypoint is actually on the road. If you are just going from A to B then the MyRoute App is of little use.
Personally I do not get on with Garmin and I have covered some serious miles using both, so much so I use a TomTom for navigation and use my £700 Garmin (BMW Navigator - rebrand) as an engine management display or speedo when on my GSA which has included two trips to Africa. Talking to others they say the same but that is just from my experience.
With the MyRoute Software I can load up routes and then share this for group rides via email or Bluetooth and others do not need to have the software. It works a treat for complex routes. There is a feature where you can add the number of waypoints so you maintain the route you see when planning, if you add too few waypoints it will just recalculate on the way.
The MyRoute app is available for your phone which has live navigation (the maps stored on your phone and you do not rely on a mobile signal for the internet) but I have not taken this option as I still like a dedicated gps. It will not be long before the phone takes over from the dedicated gps as many have gone this way already.
RedZed.
I agree with you I used tyre originally when you chose the levels you paid for gold ,no ads etc.
I don't do the kind of touring as you do .i wish :mfr_lol:.
So at the moment it doesn't justify the outlay but I did like the old one enormously 👌

I cannot remember offhand, but there is an explanation within the Tyre/MyRoute App what to do in this situation. It happened to me also when I was using the Garmin.
