Off to France and Germany next month. Any recommendations?
I was given this link.........https://breakdowndirect.co.uk/European-Breakdown-Cover/Buy-Step-1/ (https://breakdowndirect.co.uk/European-Breakdown-Cover/Buy-Step-1/)
I must admit I've never used them before, but I'm taking out a 18 days cover for £38 in the next few weeks ready for when we go in July.
I've been doing a little research into this type of cover and some companies do take the urine at times.
Brian.
Will take look. Thanks
If you are using the tunnel. have a look at Euro tunnel's own policy. We took one out which covered me and the wife for health insurance and also the bike for breakdown etc. including full repatriation for all. Not cheap (none are at my age) but good cover and benefits.
Having been unfortunate enough to have used the service, I can't praise the RAC enough. Never any problems with hire cars, accommodation, flights, ferry, and bike repatriation - all paid for by the RAC. Well worth the money. One thing to bear in mind though, if the bike can be fixed before your return journey then they will expect you to fork out for the repair rather than send the bike home on a trailer.

what ever polcy you take please ensure it has bike repatriation , most don't , a lot just take your bike to the local Mario brothers garage and god help you then !
Most health cover policies don't allow accidents whilst biking , classed as an extreme sport , you will need a motorbike specific policy
If you have an " accident " on your bike , its your insurance company that has to arrange your recovery , your separate breakdown policy is only for breakdowns
Mine went to a Kawasaki dealer and that was even worse lol

Same here, I always think it is better to pay the higher premium to Carole Nash as the breakdown cover is wrapped in with the policy.
As Viper has pointed out, the one to watch is the travel insurance aspect as the small print often excludes motorcycling. My travel insurance is combined in the fee I pay to NatWest each month for servicing the bank account. It used to be that biking was excluded but it is now covered as long as you are actually using it for your journey from home.
Have a good trip to Germany, I'll be there myself at the end of the month; looking forward to it now

Wise words indeed.
A couple of years ago, a bunch of us headed to Portugal. Long story short, one of the group had a nasty off (broken ribs, punctured lung, 4 months in a Spanish hospital) and him and his Mrs (she was in a car with their luggage) only had standard holiday insurance.
She stayed out there with him in a hotel while he was recovering thinking the insurance would cover it all. They got a bit of a shock when they were told they were only covered for accidents on bikes up to 125cc which is what people often hire when on holiday, apparently.
So there ya go. Motorcycle touring specific holiday insurance is a must.
Cheers

I have motorcycle travel insurance for a 1400 motorcycle by just travel. I used them before for my American motor bike trip.
