Title: Plugs, shims and coolant!
Post by: snowy on May 04, 2017, 06:10:56 PM
Time for a major service! :(
Engine and drive oils changed, new filters and hydraulic fluids changed meself.
Just had plug change (supplied plugs meself), valve clearance check and coolant change at local Spanner, Taylors Motorcycles at Haughton Staffordshire.
Well pleased with job and cost! Plugs removed looked as is they'd never seen daylight since fitted, and shims / clearances all to the book!
Sub £300 for labour charge and coolant, well happy!
Aware they might not be local for you, but sterling service and ex-Kawasaki trained, highly recommended.

Result that Snowy. Did they remove the plastics or did you bring it in naked?

Fully faired, just rode it in!  :scooter:
Julian at Taylors' did the lot, surprised me as tank not removed, removes the mid panels, drops the rad a bit, and does it all from there!
Was going to do the plugs meself, but at 26k the valves needed check, so let the experts do it!
Not paying labour charges for oils / filters / hydraulics, but the rest of it, took easy option! :whistling:
Well happy!

Result! How long did it take and just out of interest, did any shims need replacing?

Dropped the bike off the night before as he'll only check valves when lump is cold,  it was an afternoon job, and was ready at 5 the day after.
Shims all in tolerance, plugs at 26K were ready for change.
Shop is right on the Stafford / Telford road, good bus service every 30 mins.

He likes the motor cold Tony, so overnight job preferred.
If ever you did decide to use him, you could always borrow mine to get home and back overnight if needed!

Thank you for that generous offer

At the moment I use Kawasaki dealer at Cradley Heath.
So far no problems with them they only thing they have said for big service work they said the crash bars need removing ether by me or a couple of hours labour charge by them
