Quick bit of advice please.
My bike is first registered in 2011, I've owned it since May 2014. To my knowledge it's still on it's original battery.
I haven't had any problem's with it and the charge on the dash is around 14.2v when out and about.
Due to length of time do you think it's due to be replaced?
Touring later this year and don't really want to be caught out with a battery that start's to play up
If it need's replacing any advice on a good replacement?
That's a "piece of string" type of question.
Personally, I'd fit a new one just for peace of mind while you are touring.
As for what's a good replacement... Something like Motobatt rings a bell?
Cheers,
Paul B.
Now this might be the kiss of death to my battery, but mine is on a 2010 model, still the original I believe, and in the 5-6 years I've owned the bike it's never been on an optimate or the like. I do however keep a small battery pack in the panniers on standby in case of emergencies. I'd leave the original on until it shows signs of failure. You could be unlucky and buy a new one that goes faulty!

As others have said it is really an impossible question to answer irrespective of the model of bike.
A lot will depend on how hard a life you have given it and if it spends any time on a trickle charger if the bike is laid up.
The original battery on my 2003 GSX1400 has coughed out its last power this weekend but I have no complaints after thirteen and a half year's service.
I'd made the mistake of leaving the ignition on a couple of times - and needed recovery twice in the UK and a 'bump-start' on a tour in Germany. Bikes a 2010 reg on original battery. I replaced it a month ago after chatting to few biking mates - who all said ...'replace it'!
I'm off to Ireland next month for 2 week tour and didn't want to 'risk-it' - so I got one from T'internet - really good price and service. I 'think' it's a YUASA, but I can double check if interested.
I replaced mine with a Motobatt after 9 years and nearly 70k miles.
Mine lives on an Accumate when in the garage.
OEM battery is still fine and is now the reserve in case the Motobatt has a problem.
My battery gave up so replaced with a mottobat that lasted 12 months bought a Yuasa and its really strong if your going away replace it just for piece of mind
Yuasa have a good reputation, I've used them on classics in the past
