anyone who feels brave can try this... it induces a mild tankslapper on my bike much to my amusement today.
3rd gear doing 40mph. accelerate hard to 50 then throttle off completely and let go the handlebars they start slapping about all over the place.
can reproduce at will.
is it just mine?
Rather you than me!
nearly all bikes do this , all mine have , some more than others , all sir issacs fault apparently
The Gtr was like a rodeo
There are eadier ways to kill yourself :death:
different strokes for different folks I guess....not for this old boy though :wheelchair:
Can't say I ever experienced that on my GTR, having said that, I never accelerated hard and I don't think I ever had the bike anywhere near 50mph.....far too fast! :mfr_lol:
As for my K1600, BMW would never let any of their bikes be capable of going into a Tank Slapper.
The Germans are quite fond though of thigh slapping especially during traditional dancing. :whistling:

Isn't that because they're always back in the dealers for some sort of recall ?
Didn't Kevin Ash sadly die from injuries sustained whilst riding a GS

It is true that BMW do provide regular software updates for some of their fitted as standard electronic accessories, sat nav, cruise control, follow me home headlights, heated front and rear seats, electronic suspension adjustment, the list goes on and on.....and yes as a consequence BMW owners do get invited to fetch their bikes back to the dealers where they can often be found, relaxing on leather suites watching TV, enjoying free wifi, drinking free, yes free cans of pop, free coffees, free teas and as was the case at Plymouth BMW even getting free food and on top of that when Nigel called in there on spec with me to get a bulb replacement, they didn't even charge him anything!!
Case closed M'lord.

you wish! It sounds like you have been to the BMW brainwashing session. Just get another gtr and join the real world! I await your next comment with amusement.
thanks for the responses. Was seeing why this would happen today and even at a steady speed a gentle tap of the bars and let go makes the bars wobble like mad.
please feel free to turn a sensible question into a BWM banter post (again) but none of my previous bikes have done this and this one has only just started doing it. I'm putting it down to a just legal front tyre. i'll see if a new one cures it otherwise i'll be wondering if head bearings need checking etc.
I might even take a video if i think of it over the weekend. then decide how to post it without getting 6points.
I expect BMW have CCTV to record such occurrences.

Lol, only on the 2017 GTL version. :whistling:
On a serious note, I never experienced any instability on the GTR and I have ridden it hands free before even at speed. My guess is it's a squared tyre or something equally simple.
The money you have to spend to get a BMW I'd expect a free :censored: with evety service. :mfr_lol:
As for the 50mph wobble, I would change out the tyre and check the wheel bearings first.
My GTR1000 has always had a 45mph hands off wobble and the answer there is to not take yer hands off the bars.
 If you can induce that to order there is something inherently wrong with the bike !!! Wheel bearings and or tyres ? Sounds fun in a strange sort of way
When I was a nipper I'd ride my pushbike with no hands....that was until the day I went over the handle bars. In the last 50 years of motorbikes I can't ever remember taking both hands off, nor do I want to start now.
I'm +1 with the other guys about the tyre, as you said it's barely legal.....I'd change it before it sends you down the black stuff..
