who wears one and which one do you wear...and.......why ?
I have always worn hi vis gear vest over my jacket , new lid is yellow hi vis over trousers have yellow panels , I feel if it gives me a little edge of been seen by some other road users , that or I've got a hi vis fetish :mfr_lol: my current vest is mcw gear that has elastic lace up side's so it don't flap around and nice big front pockets to fill with stuff.
Just got one for my French and German trip as is legal requirement but don't wear over here.
I use the two zero type.
I've had it about 4 years good quality it has zips in the back if you use a rucksack it will expand to cover it well thought out
They also do a black with the same hi viz reflection if you prefer.
And if I'm wearing my Dainese suit I have a belt and braces type so it doesn't cover the vents in summer PRD informed me at last years bike meet they stand out well

This is mine (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Military-SAFETY-VEST-with-Removable-ID-Pocket-Hi-Vis-Orange-Adjustable-XL-3X-New-/272269502988) although to be honest on the road the helmet is more effective as it's not hidden, the vest is more useful off the bike in terms of visibility.
Oh and of course it has several useful little pockets plus I keep my driving licence in the ID pocket

Mines integral to the Halvarsson jacket, can be removed with a couple of zips.
Like Charlie says, anything that gives you the edge! :agree:
Too many idiots out there!
I've worn a Sam Brown type hi vis when I was an instructor, don't bother at the moment but will sort something out for when we go to France.
I know we need them, (I have two ready) and the hi vis bits on the helmets.....
The reflective panels on the lids is only a legal requirement for new lids sold in France.
They realised they couldn't retroactively enforce it for all lids ever sold in Europe...
Cheers

Now that's new to me...because if you read up on riding in France they say you have to have them on the lid, and that they cannot be removed.
Where did you hear/read this Paul?? because I don't really want to stick hi vis on the skid lid if I don't need to.

"However, it is the Commission's understanding that the obligation contained in the French legislation cannot apply retroactively to helmets already in use. As a consequence, foreign motorcycle riders carrying a helmet not containing these reflective markings cannot be obliged to bring their helmets in conformity retroactively. Only new helmet types placed on the French market must comply with the new requirements and bear this reflective material."
And as for hi-viz vests:
https://www.theaa.com/european-breakdown-cover/driving-in-europe/driving-in-france (https://www.theaa.com/european-breakdown-cover/driving-in-europe/driving-in-france)
"In 2012 the French said that riders would have to wear reflective clothing when riding and if they break down. This was to come in in 2013 but the law was scrapped in January 2013.
Since January 2016 though, riders on two or three wheels must carry reflective jackets and wear them in an emergency or break down."

That'll do for me sunshine... many thanks....

+1 for the two zero
Thanks for all the input guys, I had done some research before Posting but knew that the opinions and experiences of you wise geesers would prove to be invaluable
So I've decided on the Military Safety Vest, like the one Mikey has, I'm now waiting for it to arrive.
Thanks again
We always take a pair of HV vests with us on European trips, in all honesty they are basic things out of the boot of my car that I slip on when on building sites.
Usually the only time the come out of the luggage is on a rainy day on a motorway, that does feel a bit safer somehow in the spray.

It's a quality piece of kit, well made with a sturdy Zip, the only (really strong) velcro 9s the piece holding the ID card holder on :)
We both just bought new shark helmets and in the box was additional reflective pieces for the helmet if needed.
tried once , felt a bit of a tool to be honest . Ive got a good jacket with viz parts , I also sport a white schuberth c3 which has reflectant
We both wear them when compulsory and whenever we ride on motorways for visibility from the rear. Rarely use one for day to day except when riding blood bikes. I prefer sleeveless vest type with a zip that opens from top or bottom. Wife has a jacket zip up type.
If you do not get seen on a meter wide bike with burning headlights on then a bit of hi vis will not make much diffrence ,,,,

Exactly, my argument FOR wearing hi-viz is to make me more noticeable when I am OFF the bike, either intentionally or by accident.
People who have an accident in a car almost always stay or are retained in the car. On a bike you will be separated from it. If my hi-viz means I will be found more quickly when I am 100 metres up the road/in long grass or in a ditch then it gets my vote.
As for looking a bit of a tool............................................. :help:

Pretty much what I said and being thrown off the bike is also why I keep my driving licence in the clear ID card pouch on mine.
On the bike a bightly coloured helmet is more useful as can be seen over the top of most cars (for example) :)
I recently bought me a high vis helmet, schubert c3pro fluo red at half the price (cause c4 is there already...)
This is more effective in flanders, cause polivebikers wear same, so from far everyone becomes safer suddenly and riding slower always
Seen from the front the vest is behind the screen and from behind there is the topcase, thats why i went for the helmet too
So its nicer to go to a restaurant too in a black vest eg too. I go working with my bike too , so wearing when go to shops and horeca too😋

Me too
The military bases over here require them (US). I don't wear them myself. I usually have enough high viz on the bike with reflector panels :mfr_lol: But if you have a top case, like most of us, a significant portion is covered up. Of course the sides do show up, though.
