After looking for a long while and finally doing a test ride we are looking seriously at buying a proper green one. Does anyone have any history on the above plate?
Thanks
Ray & Julia
Hello Ray and Julia.
Welcome.
You're in the right place for any information.
I hope it turns out ok for you.
Barry
welcome along ray, you'll find endless good information and help on here plus a good amount of p☆ss taking too, and all in very good taste.
Enjoy your new bike, Green is fastest colour by the way.
Great bike Ray, especially in green. Sorry but no info on the reg.
Mo
Welcome. Incorrect info on here, the black BMW's are the fastest.
The grey ones are the classiest, TBH whatever colour you choose you can't go wrong, :185:
All wrong sparkly moon blue are the very fastest :mfr_lol:
I was told that the green ones were the fastest that's why I bought an 11 plate one :punk:
Any way up...welcome from another newbie Jay & Julia ....it's a grand forum....I'll tell what there brilliant bikes.
What's the condition of it??...mileage?..tyres?.
Brian.
Welcome!!
I'm not the newbie anymore !!
Many thanks, I've been studying the forum for a while, looks like a great resource, already got a good idea of how to set up the suspension for a fat bloke & pillion plus luggage. The bike's at Daytona in Ruislip, 1 owner 9700 on the clock. Looking at the government site the last mot ran out in May 2016. We just need to do 1 more test ride with a top box on before we commit but we both love the bike so if it's not this one it'll be another (green) one. Been riding a Guzzi Stelvio for the last 8 years so it's quite a change.
If it's any help Ray, my first ever test ride on a GTR was on a new one at Daytona where you're getting yours from.
Although I didn't buy from them (I couldn't afford a new one!) and they had no second hand ones at the time, I would have had no hesitation in doing so as I had a great experience of the customer service side of things from them.
Their other shop, which is across the road and round the corner at the traffic lights, is a Goldwing dealer. I had a Goldwing at the time, and the chap their had no hesitation in spending a good while with me sussing out a problem that I was experiencing with it.
They ended up gaining nothing in monetary terms from me, but I have put their name about a bit, and my son's friend ended up buying a smaller second hand bike from them and he's had no problems whatsoever.
Good luck.
That's good to know. We went to test ride the green one but they had problems with it and lent us the demonstrator with under 400 miles on the clock. With distance touring, St Petersburg in 2015, it is very important my wife feels comfortable with the top box fitted, hence the hesitation. I can't think there would be a huge difference between the two bikes handling and performance wise. Except as the demonstrator is blue the green one would obviously be faster😉
Very welcome here😉
After my first ride, I was sold too😜
I saw that one the other day when I was trying a Africa Twin around the corner at HGB. It looks very nice. I noticed the crash bobbins sticking out the fairings and that has tempted me to remove my R&G Bars and replace with the bobbins as they look a lot nicer than the bars
The new Africa twin is a nice looking bike, Hondas are great for going to work on but I just don't find them exciting.
After another row with Piagio I went to test ride the Crossdresser 1200, very nice, handled well but there's just something missing.
Anyway the reason we looked in HGB was that we just put a deposit down on the gtr.
We rode up to Oxford on the M40 and then back on the A roads via Aylesbury and Amersham, couple of issues;-
I did a .gov check on the bike and found out the last tax ran out May 16, so I knew it had been standing a while,
the brakes were full of air and the clutch pull decreased as we went along, finally leaving about 1 1/2" of pull, again probably air/duff fluid
after weaving all over the M40 at speeds of up to 70mph (ish) we pulled off and found the rear suspension adjustment seized
the glove box also kept opening randomly
when we stopped back at the shop an oil leak started, had a look coming from the sump gasket
also important the co-pilot really didn't like the seating position, on later investigation we have found MFW pegs that will drop her feet 2"
we both agreed the seat has had it and so will get it rebuilt once we've done a few miles, got a 600 mile trip coming soon.
Daytona as already mentioned were very good and will fix all the problems as well as doing an oil service, fitting a K&N and gps bracket.
Hope to collect next Saturday, meanwhile I have ordered the usual hugger/fenda extenda/duck tail combo, I went onto Pyramid Plastics own site was just about to press the button and the googled it, went to intobikes.co.uk and saved £35.
Off to the garage now to take all the saleable bits off the Stelvio, Mistral pipe anyone?
Glad you have it all sorted....nothing like a new toy.. I also saved money when buying the hugger by shopping about.
Good luck with the new ride - there's a whole summer to look forward to.....
With a bit of luck we'll be meeting with some friends at Tesco in Taunton on Saturday week at 9am for a ride along the coast then back over the moors, would be nice to meet other gtr's.
Hopefully all the bits will turn up. :sweatdrop:
Just sent a text to SHMBO to find out if she has me booked in for anything, if not then I'd love to meet up for a ride. :biker3:
It's always a good day out, look forward to meeting you.

Looks like we'll still be on our Guzzi, they say not just the adjuster but the rear shock too needs changing, nearest one is in Holland.
Also MRA screen from HPS still yet to arrive.
Ah well, worth waiting for, hopefully it'll be fixed in time for our summer holiday run down to Spain!

That's a shame. Still have my MRA screen for sale at half the price. I found it better but understand that taller people don't do so well with them. Enjoy your bike

Ray i would ask the dealer to let you look at the log book if your buying it and contact the last owner
We finally collected the bike last Saturday, the battery was flat so we had to wait while they put another one in. Not great but shit happens. We rode home from Ruislip to Enfield via the scenic route, about 140 miles.
The screen is a lot better (it's the taller one moayling see hps site, the shop went 1/2s with me) and the wife is very happy with the foot pegs, we stopped to adjust the shock and the weave at speed stopped, so all good then.
Sadly not, it soon became clear that the clutch fluid had not been changed and the back brake didn't feel quite right either. We arrived home and I put the bike away. I had left Sunday clear to work on the bike, it was always clear that this bike had not been loved (comes from North Scotland, perhaps by the sea) and I wanted to take some of the rusty brackets off and clean them up as well as fit the pyramid plastics and some other bits.
The pool of oil underneath the bike confirmed that none of the work that should have been done had been done. Anyway I still had my own work to do so I carried on, I needed to get under the seat to wire in my wifes heated jacket connection. The cable to connect the lock to the seat lock was poking out through the plastics where a plastic rivet was missing. My wife asked me to adjust her pegs slightly, they had been done up with an air tool and I couldn't move them without chewing up the bolts. The shop told me they had fitted a new shock, it is definitely not a new shock. Nor had the oil filter been changed.
I called the shop on Monday morning and told them how disappointed I was, don't forget dear reader that I had waited 2 weeks to collect this bike while they had done none of the work it needed other than fit new cycle parts I had specified and sourced. They sent a van over and collected it, with a promise I'd have it back by Friday.
The second call to the shop on Friday afternoon finally got me through to the lad who had sold me the bike, bike apparently now needs a new radiator. Nice of them to let me know. Either they didn't start working on the bike until Thursday or they don't give a toss.
My wife is asking me if we've bought a dog. I don't think so, I'll certainly strip it come the winter but I will ride it down to Spain this summer. It does confirm to me that you can't trust bike shop mechanics, I have always serviced and worked on my own bikes.
There's a lot of very hard fast moving tarmac underneath every bike, do you really trust someone else to keep you clear of it.
It might not be a dog but it does sound a bit wuff :mfr_lol:
Bloody hell Ray. The bike sounds both unloved *and* maybe been stood a while?
Some dealers are great at cleaning/valeting bikes but crap at making sure everything works as it should.
Personally, I'd be seriously considering getting your money back and looking elsewhere.
The GTR is a superb machine, but if the previous owner didn't look after it, and the dealer doesn't know what they're doing, then it might never be the bike you expect it to be.
Cheers

Smegging hell Ray, I'm with Paul, ask for your money, and if they get funny with you tell them your going to see about asking Trading standards for advice.
I bought an 11 plate only a few months back and she's like she's come straight from Kawasaki themselves....ultra clean, with everything working 100%.
Name & shame that's what my missus said when I read your post to her....and tell them your going to do it.
Brian
with a pool of oil underneath I'd be demanding money back
Agreed. They've already had the chance to sort the bike out, so I'd just get my money back and look elsewhere.

I certainly wouldn't recommend Daytona to anyone but having spent last Sunday having a very careful look at the bike I think the bike itself is OK. I have a 3 month guarantee and will be doing at least 1000 miles during that time so I'll soon find out if I'm right. I must admit looking at Bristolrobs bike, a 2009, I was surprised at how much better it was but I'll soon have it up to scratch and enjoy a challenge.

Well, I wish you well, it sounds like you are determined to 'make it work' and I heartily applaud your attitude
Good luck, enjoy your trip and don't forget to keep us posted
Last Saturday my lovely green Kwak was dropped off with a promise for new front discs and pads to come as they felt bad about the whole thing and felt there was a bit of warping. I spent a very nice Saturday afternoon taking bits off and adding bits like the wifes electric jacket wiring, the pyramid bits and so on. I also noticed the clutch fluid had still not been changed. Sunday we headed out from norf lundun planning basically a circular route via Downham Market.
We stopped in Thetford for a spot of lunch and that's when we noticed the bike was leaking petrol through a myriad of pin holes in the tank. :censored:
We got home and composed an e-mail about this bike that I had owned for a month and only actually had in my garage for two days.
They collected it on Tuesday, I am now the proud owner of a 17 plate blue 1400gtr that as you can imagine I got at a keen price and was dropped off this morning with 16 miles on the clock.
I never found out the truth about this bike but I do think now had I kept it the accelerated wear on every part would have kept me poor and very busy in the garage.
Guess blue is better the. Green
Good luck with then new one ! :punk:
It's a shame about the problems you had but now you can enjoy the newer version
It's great that you now have a brand new bike, did Daytona just drop the 17 plate off with no other ££££ changing hands??? if so you got the sale of the century...
The other side of the coin is now will someone else finish up with this bike and not be aware of its history??.....the problems with that 11 plate were OTT, it should be scraped.

I'm sure that others share my view that you have got rid of the bike that seemed to be a bad deal
Congratulations on your new bike and I'm sure you will enjoy it
Congratulations Ray on the birth of your new baby. We will need to meet up again so I can have a look.
Ah well.......
Just returned from a nice round trip avoiding motorways, Shrewsbury, Chester, York, Whitby & Lincoln.
800 miles, ran the bike in nicely, felt the engine loosen off around 200 miles.
We were waiting to pull into a filling station outside Whitby while a truck pulled out when its rear end swung right out and knocked us both off the bike.
I've priced the bits and its about £2k of damage + labour. Carol Nash's approved repairer are collecting the bike on Thursday.
They say it shouldn't be a problem as we were stationary.
Stone me!
Could have done without it. Can I change my avatar to "Lucky" Ray?
Stone the Crows ! - I hope you guys are ok...
Jezzeeee dude your sure having some bad luck sunshine...at least your safe...did the truck stop??? or are you claiming on your insurance??
Good grief Ray, I hope you are both ok. You are having a real bad run of luck, hope all goes well with the repairs and insurance.

Yes, we're OK thanks. The young lad driving the truck stopped and apologised a lot, could have been a lot worse.
The insurance people seem to think it's fairly a open and shut case against him, we'll see, these things are rarely without problems.
More worried about getting it back for our holiday to Spain at the end of July. Paid for a load of stuff already, ferries, hotels and so on.
The green bike still intrigues me, while we were away the logbook turned up and sure enough only one owner in Peterhead (AB42 postcode), north of Aberdeen.
I still don't understand how you get 20 years wear on a bike in 6 years. Don't like to stereotype but the only thing I could think of is that he worked on the rigs, earned loads of money and left the bike on the keyside everytime he went to work for a 3 week stretch? I know I haven't been told the whole story with this bike but hope Daytona do the right thing and put it into an auction.
Lastly I did have to put a couple of quid on top for the blue one but to be fair Daytona gave me a very good deal and I can't believe all their sales go like this as they've been there since I was a kid pressing my nose against the window yearning for an H2 (the old 2 stroke one that is!). A new H2 with my back and where do I put me luggage????
So sorry o hear of your misfortune Ray, at least you are both ok.
Lets hope that the bike is fixed in time for your holidays, I reckon it should be
What rotten luck. Glad you are both ok.
Bloody hell Ray!! Glad to hear you're both ok.
Do you get the impression that the universe is trying to tell you to ride a different bike?
Cheers
Paul B.
Sorry to read about your misfortune Ray ... as long as you are both OK .... that is in the end what matters the most.
omg Ray, just opened up and read this. Glad that your both ok
