Title: Tyred out
Post by: PRD on April 10, 2017, 08:49:36 AM
Shortly Be replacing oe Bridgestones. My normal tyre of choice is the Angel gts had great results with them. Heard Good things about the Avon Storms. Any other suggestions? Please don't mention Michelins as to me that is a French word for puncture!

Cant comment for the Storm 3D XMon the GTR but having racked up best part of 100k on them on my Blackbirds & ST1100's (& another 50-60k on the Storm 2's prior to that) safe to say I like them :)

NB The storm 3D XM has just had a price drop as its going to become their entry level tyre, they have the new Avon Spirits being launched shortly to replace them. I think they are also stopping manufacture of the Storm 2

I've done 1000 miles so far on the new Metzeler Roadtec 01 HWM  tyres.  Very pleased with them.  Excellent in the wet, straight from fitting and now on dry roads they seem more nimble that the Bridgestones, PR4s and Maxxis I have tried in the past.  A sightly more comfortable ride as well.

i won't touch michelins even if they were the last tyre available. I hope your luck does not run out Barry but Grant is used to being stranded at the side of road by michelins!

Interesting, pretty much every bike I've owned I typically get better mileag from the front than the rear

eg on the Bird running 3D XMs it was typically 7k on the rear and 11k on the front, same sort of ration on the ST1100

Wasnt the cost I was querying, I've always found the avons to be a ood mix of  price, grip & longevity plus the very useful anti puncture warranty(which  have claimed on more than once) in the first 1mm of wear.

No it was more the wear pattern front to rear, is that normal for the GTR because as I said  in my experience over a wide variety of bikes (but specifically on Birds & STs running avons) I find the fronts always get higher mileage than the rears.

If I was a betting man, if Michelins were the last tyre available and you needed tyres I have a feeling you would be all over them like a rash.
