Title: Top Block Crash Bung* Pictures for Bondu
Post by: Kevin on June 29, 2011, 05:59:43 PM
* These are so nicely made it doesn't seem right to call them 'bungs'.

Kevin - Any pics of the Top-Block sliders fitted? I looked on your site but didn't see any. I'm on the point of buying a set, any pointers as to the difficulty in fitting?
Thank's
Richard

Sorry for the delay Richard but Lyn has only just got around to cleaning the bike!

I wasn't entirely sure what you wanted to see so I've attached a close-up (in which I just managed to miss the LH edge!), a rear view and a view from the front. If you'd like to see anything else please just shout.

They were very nicely presented arriving in box containing two other boxes which had foam cut-outs for each piece so it was easy to see if everything is there (none of this loads of bits in a polythene bag). The bolt that goes through the engine was separate.

Only French instructions were included but they emailed an English version when we requested it. The English version wasn't for the same model of bung but was good enough to get the general idea.

The mechanic who fitted them said it took him 2.5 hours (he only charged me for 1.5) but added this was the first time he'd seen these and it would be quicker next time. The biggest issue seemed to be that he had to keep offering the bodywork up to drill holes/see where things fitted which took a lot of time.

They're very similar to the Kawasaki bungs for the earlier model GTR but less angular and, I think, look nicer because of that. I hope we never find out if they work as well as the Kawasaki version.

I am puzzled as to why "he had to keep offering the bodywork up to drill holes/see where things fitted"  ??? ???
Looking at the instructions for the earlier model and your photos it appears that only utilizes the engine mounting bolt for fixing

There's a hole to be drilled in each side of the belly pan but I've no idea exactly what the issue was as I didn't do it.

OTOH I was very, very happy to pay 1.5 hours labour to save me fitting them myself, especially as I'd have probably ending up having to buy a new belly pan when I screwed it up first time!

Cheers Kevin, they look sturdier than anything else I've found, and look good on the bike too.

Steve - There'e a good 3D presentation of the kit on the Top Block site, that shows the mounting points (the forward mounting points are under the belly pan)

They look better than the crash bars in my opinion, where hey as expensive as the Kawasaki ones?

They're expensive - around £430 which included a premium for PayPal as they don't take credit cards. I didn't want to do it via IBAN because it was a bit of s PITA last time and PayPal does give us some payment protection.

No way. I wouldn't trust PayPal with a single penny.
Remember what they did with the donations to Wikileaks? They refused to pay and just kept the money for themselves.
I also heard that quite a few people had problems with them claiming there was some sort of problem with their account so they didn't pay the vendor and it took ages and a lot of hassle for the buyer to get their money back. That lot is definitely on my shitlist and I would never open an account with them.  >:(

I've been using PayPal for years and I use it a lot. I have never had a problem with them.

I've had no problems with PayPal either, same as any other 'bankers', bound to be a few problems I guess.

Barry7 mentioned them in another thread. We tried to contact them before going direct but were unsuccessful.

I can't remember which was which as we've had problems contacting a couple of companies recently but either we called them several times and there was no answer or we called them and left a message to which they didn't respond.
