Title: French Tolls
Post by: Icefever on March 26, 2017, 10:01:04 AM

I'm sure that there's a way of paying tolls with a Tag for us when we travel to France??? Have any of you guys done this?? if so how?

I believe that you can by an electronic pass, this is the website that you will need to dig around:

http://telepass.eu/about-us/?lang=en (http://telepass.eu/about-us/?lang=en)

Personally I have never bothered as I am usually just passing through (or if I am riding in France as a destination I would prefer to be on more interesting roads than motorways).

Me n'Wifey have developed a bit of a system, she keeps some small Euro notes in the inside pocket of her jacket and feeds them in while I pull up at the barrier, as soon as I hear she has grabbed the change I am off and she is putting ther gloves back on as soon as the barrier has lifted, no big delay.

Pete.

Always go to the manned booth if you can. Otherwise you get charged for a car which is more expensive.

I found this to be the case last year, you get stiffed using your credit card on a bike.

It should be the case that if you use the lane marked for motorcycles and usually HGV that is typically located on the left of the Toll Plaza when you take the ticket, the sensors fitted give you a ticket coded for a motorcycle. When you pay at the exit, the code on the ticket ensures that you are charged correctly.

When we went to France last year, even on the AutoRoute sections that are heavily used by Brits such as the Route Du Soleil, operator controlled booths were a rarity, so you might be forced into using the automatic pay machines. Many of the toll machines no longer accept coins either, on the same trip last year we found that entire sections of the Peage were both unmanned and card only payment.

A couple of times I've been shown as a car on the toll system. Just press the help and shout 'moto' and that gets the right price. Category 5 springs to mind

Yep same here.Last year lots were unmanned and card payment only.Use the HGV/motorcycle lane.
I used a credit card most of time and was only charged bike rate.
Last year they didnt do a dart tag type thing for bikes it was only for cars as i would have brought one of these maybe its changed this year worth checking out their website. :biker3:

Bought one this year, worked well and a lot easier than fiddling about with cards/cash/tickets, you can also ride through the truck lanes rather than queuing with all the cars.
The only lanes you shouldn't use are the low 2m lanes with a no motorcycle sign above the height restriction, if you do you are charged as a car not a m/c.
Here is their website.

From https://www.saneftolling.co.uk/support/faq (https://www.saneftolling.co.uk/support/faq)

4.4. I've got a motorcycle?

You can use a Liber-t tag with a motorcycle with some limitations, the main one being that to avoid being charged as Class 1 vehicle you must use the manual lane and hand over the tag to the person in the toll booth.  They will use a barcode scanner to read the tag and will charge you as a Class 5 vehicle.  The main advantage is that it saves you fumbling for cash / payment cards with gloves on but you should not use the automated lanes. If there is no manned lane, use the automated Liber-t lane. When using the automated lane on a motorcycles just hold your tag up to the gantry, ensuring it is the correct way round as per the instructions it came with.   Take care the vehicle (or other motorbike) behind is not too close as the equipment in the automated lane may register you as a larger vehicle and charge for a car (class 1). You can check your transactions in the 'My Account' area a few days later.  If this happens you would need to contact us and request a toll adjustment.  If you use the automatic lane then we can only request a toll adjustment if you have used the non-height restricted Liber-t lane, all vehicles using the 2 meter height restricted lane will be classed as class 1 with no option to adjust this.

Seemed like an excellent idea, but now suddenly seems more faff than it's worth...

Cheers

Paul B.

Never used a manual lane, often went for the truck lane rather than queue, read the rest of the FAQ for the full story. Had my August bill all charging correct.
