Title: Launch of website.
Post by: Lonewolf on March 20, 2017, 11:45:56 PM
In an endeavour to have some employment when I retire in the near future and still be able to feed the wife and my dogs, (not necessarily in that order),  :whistling:  I have come up with a plan, a plan so cunning it is shockingly brilliant.

I'm going to have a stab at making a modest living out of photography. I am not a professional photographer, whatever that is, is it someone who has lots of qualifications to their name or is it someone who receives payment for their craft? In any case, I don't currently really fall into either category!

I've launched a website and been doing the rounds at local businesses in line with my chosen subjects, providing business cards, flyers, etc.

Things are slowly moving in the right direction but I would be grateful if members on here would spread the word, share the website address etc if you know anyone who might fancy some work doing.

The website is a work in progress and hopefully it'll be more impactive in the near future, but everyone has to start somewhere.

I thank you.  :punk:

Good luck with your venture Steve, I told you before you should consider a photographic career

Maybe a better home page header picture would help :mfr_lol:

p.s.    I'm saying that before Pete does  :mfr_lol:

Roger, if I could find someone local with a GTR who wants it photographing that would be a start!

It's saying something when no GTR owner wants a photograph of their bike!

Steve, it looks really good to me and I hope that it works well for you. The problem that I have found since going part time however is that there simply isn't enough time to do the things that you really want to do and the work. It does seem that work always takes place when the weather is at its best, too!

Roger, its been trying to snow here a bit as well hence my frustrated Facebook comment this morning. Suns out now though so normal Bradford driving style will resume as soon as possible.  :mfr_lol:

Pete, I'm fetching my gear to the bike meet later this year, so I can take some then of your bike if you wish.

I would like to get a photo of a GTR before then though and have it printed & framed like I have some other bike makes to show you all. I have a stunning framed print of a green ZZR and it looks truly awesome.

Tony, let's get this done then. Are you off 'set days' each month or can you pick and choose?

I can meet you half way, perhaps in Wales somewhere, I've heard Wales can be dry occasionally!

If a meet comes off and you want me '08 GTR or the F700GS as a subject, again let me know, would Peak District suit as about 1/2 way or Wales?
Shift pattern is 4 on / 4 off so fair possibility of being free.

This probably means you'll have to wash the bike first... :censored:!

One of my friends locally (non-rider) has started making picture tiles.  I put my C14 on it.  I now need one for my Tacoma and Indian.  If I lived in the UK, Steve, I'd certainly take up on a photo shoot.  I think it's a great idea.

Its just a bit of fun at the moment with the potential to make it into a business. The dog portraiture side of my photography is doing pretty good because most pet owners want photos of their cute little babies, but bikers tend to be a little more cautious with their cash, and think they can take just as good a picture on their iPhone!  :nono:

What a bostin' day it's been!
Met Pross at Keele,  uneventful but pleasant ride up M6 to Birch Services on M62, then a pig of a traffic jam on motorway to Bradford as some idiot had let horses on the M62!
Anyhow, met The Wolf and headed to the moors for photo shoot!
Dramatic cloud, great weather, and hanging onto to Steve's kit to save it heading off with the wind!
(http://i1077.photobucket.com/albums/w473/snowr0/pic1_zps3vflvnlv.jpg) (http://s1077.photobucket.com/user/snowr0/media/pic1_zps3vflvnlv.jpg.html)

(gents - hope you don't mind being in pics, any issues let me know and I'll get 'em down).
Pub lunch in the sun, and after battling through Huddersfield Friday traffic, spirited rides on Woodhead and Cat & Fiddle passes on the way home!  Great rides!
Nice to meet forum folk, and although long day in the saddle, good times.
Thanks gents! Cant wait to see the results!

The photos are looking good. I'll let you know when they're sorted.

PS, I've no issues with being in the above pics.

PPS, as for the horses on the M62 on the way to Bradford, is that not normal down your way, cos it is in Yorkshire.

What a nice day on the moors for a photo shoot a bit breezy but nice and dry nice to meet snowy and big thanks to Steve for the pictures.
Only the one incident with our very own lord Lichfield doing 11/2 twists in the tucked position and landing and still held the camera above his head to save it amazing skills.
This was only mentioned because Steve has fessed up

As for oses on the motorway we only have to put up with the odd pikey and his trotting cart  :whistling:

Well as some of you may recall, I recently offered a free photo shoot for GTR members and as some of you may also recall, nobody seemed that interested except for Pross & Snowy who travelled all the way to West Yorkshire from the Midlands.

Here's a sample of one of the shots taken on the day and there are some others on my FB Page     https://www.facebook.com/CreativeMotorcyclePhotography/

Have a browse, if anyone fancies something similar, please get in touch.

I must have missed the offer of a free photo shoot. bllks.

Anyhow, if we ever get on an annual meet up I would be interested in having a nice print of mine.

We've got one more trip booked for September to Collumpton for 5 days, so might be able to meet up for a chat on the way down.

Lol, this is an old thread. I found that planning organised photo shoots with bikers was a dead loss and nobody seemed interested so I called it a day and started to photograph dogs instead.

Hi Steve, I must admit to not reading the entire list of older posts. So don't know if this is something you've already considered or it's been suggested already - Has the truck photo market been put forward as an example to you. From what I understand, and I've no personnel insight, guys stand on motorway bridges etc.. taking photos of HGV's passing under motorway bridges. Drivers can search for their registration numbers on internet and any photos taken come up in the search. I've no idea how this is technically achieved. A price is then paid to the company to receive the image. I assume this could translate into a notoriously popular biking area, where a consistance presence, could develope into an income once you've established the market. Once you've established the market you'll be swamped, as with the HGV market, with competitors. The same with the drone house photo market, for a while I had a number of types knock on my front door with a framed photo of my property. To be fair I should have bought one but never did. They stopped coming in the end. The frames were good quality and they were doing a great job, I was just looking for the catch. If you enjoy photography, do what you get pleasure from. So if you don't make money, you've enjoyed your pastime.  As an aside, a friend of mine, now long retired, made various coloured resin balls in a mould (mostly marble cosmos type) and attached them to various pieces of machined and cleaned up drift wood and sold them for silly money at arts and crafts shows. He never worked out the costs of time spent making and the attending of craft sales etc.. it was a hobby, which he loved doing, and he thought he made good money. This isn't supposed to be negative, just my two cents, if I had all the answers I'd be far richer than I am.

Yes I remember the arial shots of houses which were popular 20 yrs ago or so, the in laws have one of their place. These days though it would be so much easier, no need to charter a plane etc, just send the drone up and you're sorted. I haven't tried any still shots yet with the drone but it can shoot RAW and has a 48mp camera which is pretty high spec so the photos should be ok. Roof inspections, gutter inspections etc, there are no limits other than the regs imposed by the CAA.
