Title: Lastminute D-Day trip - any accommodation ideas ?
Post by: UncleBigBad on March 20, 2017, 09:09:46 PM
Good evening fellow forum dwellers
A good mate of mine has dropped a bomb this evening by booking a trip to France for D-day.  Mrs BigBad has signed my pass, so that's it....we're going.  Only problem is we've got no accommodation booked  :mfr_lol:

Has anybody got any good ideas - said friend won't do tents (he's too posh!) otherwise I'd say we'd find a corner of a field and just sweet-talk a local farmer.

Cheers in advance
Steve

Any town or village will have some where to stay , I did a four day last minute trip and just stopped where it looked nice  ,had no problem getting somewhere to stay , and that's with out a smart phone , now I have. Got one it should be easier still , if you look up places to stay in the place you are near it will bring up a list of places ,just take the cheapest one on offer , it's more fun not being booked in ,

I just googled D-Day beaches accommodation ....these may help, I don't know what your budget is, I haven't visited any of these places as most of my trips have been to the Somme (WW1)

Have fum, enjoy and don't forget pictures and report when you return

I have been a few times around D day and the place is rammed. Visited Pegasus bridge on my way to catch a ferry in Le Havre and nearly missed it because of the parades in the area.

Needs to be booked in advance or be prepared to travel small distances to the sites.

It's well worth the trip.

We always stay at the Ibis at Honfleur (this hotel is around 1.5km from the town centre, the town centre one has very limited parking). Rates are fair, there is a "Buffalo Grill" opposite and the ride to the beaches takes under an hour. The bridge on the main road in and out of Honfleur has a special lane for bikes, it is also free for us providing that you use this lane!

I would be surprised if you could not find rooms at that hotel.

I've stayed in this one.
It's a nice hotel in a lovely part of France.
In very easy walking distance of the town centre which is beautiful and rammed with restaurants.
