The one big thing we've noticed between the Pan and the GTR is the space behind me and the top box.
My girl is only 5' and about 9 stone, but she is finding it difficult to get on the bike. I lean forward over the tank and try to give her as much room as I can. The problem is she get very close to kicking the panniers. She did catch the near one a couple of times yesterday, so I was wondering if it's possible to relocate the fixing plate back an inch or so???. I made a fixing plate for my first ST1100 as I wouldn't pay the money they were asking.
I can't see it being that difficult to drill another 4 holes and move the box back say a max of 2". This may just give her that bit more room....another thing we've noticed is the GTR panniers sit higher than the PAN.
Just been reading some older posts and came across a couple of them about top boxs. I also remember years back where I used an ali square section to adapt a topbox to a plate....that would work with what I'm thinking about now..
i made some ally plates. you can see them in this pic. different rack though but you get the idea .works well. http://www.gtr1400.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=5992.msg81596#msg81596

Cheers guys...it does seem that there's a number of us that do need to adjust the top box...I can't see any problems in moving it back, the only thing to look out for will be weight distribution over the tail end???
My girlfriends 5'11" and has no problems with the amount of space back there.
As for getting on, left foot on left peg, left hand on my left shoulder, stand up, leg over, sit down, enjoy :)

There's no problem per sa with the space, my lady is 70 and maybe not as nibble as we both use to be. She does the same as your lady, left peg, but then she has to pass her right leg through the gap between me and the box...she can't kick her leg over...I'm looking into getting the pads for the top of the panniers.
I made my own plate from 1/4" ally plate. The box is about 2" back from the rear of the saddle.
Weight distribution is irrelevant unless you are planning on putting heavy stuff in the topbox.
Put the bike on the centre stand, let her get on first and slide back. Then you can have fun trying to get on without kicking her :whistling:

She may be only 5' tall but has she got a left hook.... :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
It's now sorted, I took the saddle off this morning to take it to Custom seats at Coventry. As I was taking the seat off I noticed the bolts that hold the top box bracket to the bike rack were slotted, so when we got back home I set about the job. It was so simple and quick, take 4 bolts out, you slide the Givi plate back about 2", it has a number of holes that you just line up with the bike rack and pop the bolts back in and Bobs your uncle....job done.
I have one of those Phils plates as well mate
