Just bought and fitted a Bagster tank cover, now looking for an appropriate sized tank bag. I see some of the newer bags come with straps for carrying like a small Bergen. Not sure I'll need that. Just want one that's big enough for a few items or small amount of clothing for Ferries etc, and doesn't interfere with the steering lock on the bike. Needs to have a clear map case on top.
Anyone recommend a size, difficult to estimate from piccies. :help:
I use this kappa.Just right for my needs and doesnt get in the way of standard bars.Kappa is a spin off from Givi so good quality https://youtu.be/ROSV84lA7no
Tank bags look ugly.
Why not use the panniers or the top box?
Why use a tank bag?
Because they are perfect for quick removal, they turn into rucksacks, have pockets for quick access to wallet, passport etc...
And if you have an overnight stop en route to a more permanent base, they can hold a change of clothing, leaving the pannier bags neatly packed.
I have a Bagster Impact which goes from 21 litres to 32 litres (I think) when you unzip the expansion fold. It has a clear cover for your map, and a separate (and necessary) waterproof cover. It also has a zip pocket at the rider end, perfect for passport, money, etc; stuff you need quick access to for a minute or so (passport control and toll booths).
Hope that helps.
Cheers

I've never used a tank bag.
I can see that they have their uses though.

I only use a tank bag on long multiple day trips especially if the wife is accompanying me. My stuff goes in the tank bag and she uses the top and side cases.

:mfr_lol: Same thing happens here, when the wife joins me. Even then, some of her stuff creeps into the tank bag.

I feel your pain :whistling:
I've finally taken the plunge and the new GTR will be ready in a few weeks.
On the back of your thread, did you go down the road of a magnetic or the Bagster range of Tank Cover with their type of bag in the end?
I've still got a Bagster bag in the garage, no idea what type it is, but am looking for a tank cover but no idea which one to get, I also saw a universal one but didnt look strong enough.
Apologies for hijacking if you didnt go down the Bagster route.

You can buy a bike specific tank cover in various colours for the GTR. Just make sure you buy the correct one for your bike. The original GTR (pre 2010) has a storage compartment in front of the filler cap, so the tank cover has a Velcro join there. The new GTR doesn't have that so the tank cover doesn't have the Velcro seam.
Hope that helps

No problem, went the Bagster route, tank cover in blue for my 2011, and a Newsign tank bag. Didn't want anything to big, just to hold spare gloves, sunglasses, passport and paper work.
Thanks for that. A bagster tank cover for the right year should be fine then..

I'm in the market for a new tank bag also, someone mentioned the Givi tank lock, I've just had the last 2 hours reading and pricing them, for me they came out tops....just a thought.
the tank lock systems dont touch the tank as they fit on top of the filler cap. ile be putting my kappa ra308 on here for sale over the weekend if my mate doesnt want it.heres a pic on its most rearward setting.I have different bars fitted and get in the way.(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x459/wildybeast/20170313_1250551.jpg) (http://s1182.photobucket.com/user/wildybeast/media/20170313_1250551.jpg.html)(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x459/wildybeast/20170313_1252081.jpg) (http://s1182.photobucket.com/user/wildybeast/media/20170313_1252081.jpg.html)
I went to France and Spain last year 2 up, we were camping so needed to utilise all sorts of carry equipment, I wanted a 40 litre tank bag, very glad I didn't as the givi 25 was still slightly too big, I had a tom tom rider fitted in between the bars and occasionally needed to look at it( had verbal into my earpiece too)
But it was just too tall think a 15-20 maybe better but the Givi was very plush, really good quality, that was a magnetic one, just left a few minor scratches which I polished out eventually
My one has the option of expanding via a secondary zip. Transparent top for maps or docs etc, side pockets for phones and stuff and a big chunk a space for stuff the wife wont let me put in 'her' panniers :)
I'll see if I can dig it up.
Is there a capacity limit on the fuel filler connector type systems?
They all seemed to be around 8-12L's only.
My old bagster one (that would need a tank cover type connector) was around 25-32L's.
I intend to take my DSLR with me and dont fancy it sitting in the topbox or panniers. I can also add suitable padding to stop it moving around.
Think Oxford do a range of quick release tank bags.as well as givi/ kappa/sw motech. http://www.getgeared.co.uk/oxford-q30r-lifetime-tank-bag-quick-release-30-litres-wp-all-colours
I've ordered a 25l Give....think the model number is 306. I wouldn't want to go any bigger than that.
