OK we all know that whatever the manufacturer calls it the actual engine size is frequently different
eg the 1400GTR has a 1352cc engine.
Now I can understand why they wouldn't want to call it a 1352GTR but is there any reason why they don't make the engines exactly 600, 1100,1400 etc?
Its not even as though 1352cc (for example) has an exact imperial equivalent (its actually 82.5041 cubic inches)
:stupid:
Is it coincidence that Kawasaki call their bike a 1400 GTR but give you 1352cc and yet BMW call their bike a K1600 and yet give you 1649cc
Perhaps PRD can answer this question, he is after all a spokesperson for BMW. :whistling:
Short answer: Pi is an irrational number. 3.14159265.... etc etc
If they make the bore and stroke nice sensible whole numbers for ease of manufacturing, then the engine capacity (for a 4 cylinder engine) is 4 * (Pi * (bore/2) * (bore/2) * stroke) where the numbers for bore and stroke are expressed as cm rather than mm.
Cheers

sure can. It is because BM need extra cc's to keep up!

Just what I thought (not)!
Too complicated for my brain!
you guys need to get out more :mfr_lol:
Too busy riding to count ccs...anyways the ZZR1400 has a 1441 cc motor

(A) Yes, I do need to get out more!
(B) I thought the ZZR had the same lump but a different ECU. Ya learn something new every day!

Ah that will be down to the bore & (longer) stroke multiplied by pi and the number of cylinders ;)
ZZR1400 84.0 mm × 65.0 mm
GTR1400 84.0 mm × 61.0 mm
Early ZZR1400 was 1352cc the same as the GTR1400.
More power was because of different cams and no VVT.
GTR1400 has a better spread of torque thanks to VVT and softer cams.
Talking of bores ............
