Firstly, thank you everyone who voted when I inquired if I should get the Kawasaki GTR1400 2009 http://www.gtr1400.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=6137.0
So, I did buy it and have driven it for 250KM's ready, I wanted to put some miles in before tinkering around.
The ideal RPM is at 2K, I know its high and I have read the manual and know where the screw is to lower it. Can I have some tips on how I should go about it.
And noticed on mild bumpy roads as i drive the front gauges move alot including the wind shield, is that normal?
Let her warm up for 5 minx. Then just use the adjuster to set idle to 1200rpm.
Gauges and screen should not move much so I suspect a loose or missing bolt somewhere.
What Boomer said about the adjusting screw. All you need to do is to turn it one way or the other (I don't remember which) and whichever way drops it, then go that way. What concerns me is the loosiness of the gauges. Hopefully nothing has happened to that bike in the past but looseness in the front is not a normal thing. Check to make sure that the large round nut between the bars is tight. Also check where the front fairing attaches to the tripletree, 2 bolts on each side. Those 5 nuts have been known to become loose or fall off. Also make sure before you adjust anything that you have some play with the throttle cables.
What Jim said
And congratulations on your new bike
What every one said above ...
The direction of throttle adjuster screw is ANTI CLOCKWISE to lower the ticker .
Adjust it by a quarter turn let the engine settle for a m8n .
Then blip the throttle and read off RPM .repeat this process till tick over is around 1000 to 11000 RPM .
Regards clocks etc .. the speedo and rev counter are rubber mounted and does have a couple of mill play .. also a few mill of movement on the screen is normal .. anything else needs checking .
Hope this helps .
And ENJOY your bike

I think you meant 1100.... :mfr_lol: I think we redline about 10500...
I can recall that I lost one of my nuts when I went out for a ride with Charlie a couple of years ago on the GTR.
Everything was flapping around something shocking till I managed to get a replacement.
Is that why you have a squeaky voice?

Are you blaming Charlie for driving you nuts then :whistling:
Hope Charlie had a sharp sterilised knife ... nowt worse than losing a nut with a blunt blade :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Thanks everyone. I did let her warn up for 5 mins then changed her to 1000rpm as its sounded right. will monitor this and might take it up abit later.
Need to find the loose nuts for the guages. any idea which nuts could be loose?

in Wookies case it'll be the one that attaches the handle bars to the seat :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

priceless Wooks priceless :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
1000 rpm is fine, but if the bike stalls when you stop at traffic lights then you will need to increase it.
Mine was set to 1000 when new but works much better at 1200.
:agree:
And whilst we're back on topic  :death:
It pays if ticking over for a longish period to blip the gofastertwisty thing .. why ?
Well! Apart from sounding good it prevents a "bow wave" of oil forming in front of ball races.
Coz it this happens it leaves a oil freeish void behind the leading side of the ball .
So .... blip the bugga
On a further note ....
Only draw back of a higher tick over is when visiting a HOT country ..no ah meen temp wise not the state of the local TOTTI :mfr_lol:
It pays to drop it down to 900 and a bit RPM
Just sayin wot wook duz
