Title: Definitive answer on tyres
Post by: peterdo on February 03, 2017, 08:04:48 PM
I know this has probably been done to death but which way do I go; Battlax BT 023's or Pilot Road 4's?

Bugger! I thought I had it pinned down to the two. You're right about the Michelin 'cos a bit of stone did for mine but it was squared off anyway.

Today's standards as long as it's black, round, made of rubber and is the correct size and rating you'll be fine.
Or you can get PR4's and be extra fine

I thought that may have been forgotten about   :whistling:

I changed the valve insert and it seems to be holding up ok

If using Michelins make sure you have a breakdown recovery service. Good chance you will need it!

I went from BT 023s to PR4s. Unbelievable difference. PR4s for me next time as well.

Cheers

Fit some!  :mfr_lol:
If you ride in the wet the PR4.
Angel GTR are also excellent.
PR4s seem to be a bit puncture prone, but are better in the wet than Angels.

PR4GT had three sets never a puncture or a problem, in fact simply the best I have ever had.

My PR3's gripped wonderfully and punctured readily. Can't afford to use michelins. Obviously any tyre can puncture but no prob with angels.

Thanks for all the replies; seems like the 'piece of string' question. I'll probably stick with what I know.

I have had Michelin on all my 5 GTRs from 2008 only had 1 puncture in appx 10 pairs+, they really are the best tyre i have ever fitted. They are brilliant in the wet and inspire confidence ( safety is paramount ) and really good longevity, what else do you need, Having said that to be fair i have not tried other makes for some time but then again, i don't need to.

Never had a puncture in 14 years of riding till I bought PR4's
Love the tyre and the best in the wet imo
Got the bridgestones on that came with the bike
But gonna change to the Angel GT before trip to Spain as they seem to be highly recommended too

I've always preferred michelins on other bikes I've had so when I bought
The big kwack with Avons already fitted I thought I'd be changing them
for pr4's but they stuck to the road so thought I'd give em a chance &
glad I did more mileage than I've had from any other tyre & cheaper

I had no issue with PR4's until till 50% worn, then lost confidence with the feel.
Local dealer who services a lot of Blood Bikes said heard lot of reports much the same when part worn,  but no issues running Angel GT's
So, that's the boots worn now, no issues as yet!

Angels are so much better than michelins.

Angel GT's (and previously St's) always worked well for me on the GTR, and now I have these fitted to the Versys. In all, I've had six pairs of the same and so could only be described as satisfied!

I've not tried Michelins on a bike, although I have used them on cars. They never have been my favourite tyre, a matter of individual choice I suppose?

Without doubt my worst experience with tyres was a set of Continental Road Attacks, fitted to my Ducati ST2 some years ago (they were new on the market then) immediately before a trip to France. In hot weather, they cracked around the perimeter where the tread and sidewall met and were scrap within 500 miles.

Actually modern tyres have quite a small amount of rubber in the construction, it's mostly silica and other compounds

I do apologise, I was being a bit generic.
