Evening Everyone,
I've seen a 2009 GTR for sale at Jordan Motorcycles in Yorkshire.
Seems immaculate on the Advert and through speaking to the dealer via email, need to ask some further questions. It's over 100 miles from me so not seen it in the flesh, Does anyone know
NV09 JYD.....two owner machine, 6800 miles.
Anyone any advice on what to look for/ask.
Cheers
Landshark
Blimey that's been nowhere has it, I would aks they give it a fluid service including the brake and clutch fluid as if it's not been changed it needs it.
I have a 2011 bike which is the newer one generation 2 which has the "better higher mirrors" and the eco mode should you want it. No idea what cost this bike is but check around and see if you can get a 2010 or later one for the money, nowt wrong with a 09 but the later ones are current design wise.
Awesome bike whatever.
Hi BigAlan,
Thanks for the reply.
It looks immaculate, it's up for £6,890, apparently the owner literally sold it due to lack of use. The dealer described it as pristine.
I've not negotiated on price (salesman I've spoken to previously was off today) but I'll ask about the those fluids being changed, I'm always wary when dealers say they'll service it before sale as I instantly think oil/filter only.....
Cheers
I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to my bike as I change oil, oil filter, diff oil and air filter every 4K miles, it's easy, I change my brake and clutch fluid every three years as crap gets in there, and the big thing is you MUST rotate the bobbins on the front disks every month and lube them with brake cleaner or the disks will warp, a nut and bolt through the bobbin then rotated is easiest, and I always have the pads out and clean the calliper as well, but as I say I am a nerd when it comes to my bike.
Check the tyre pressure sensors work and ask if they are original, if so you can change the batteries easily, the later ones are sealed. If you can check the tyres for age, if it's been stood it might have a flat spot, in any doubt a lot,of us now run the Michelin PR4GT as they seem the best with dual compounds.
Anything else you want to know just ask on this forum, we know everything between us apart from saturdays lottery numbers.
:agree: i see from the dealer advert that all bikes are serviced before sale, you need to establish what level of service has been completed, also check the rear suspension adjuster, if the bike has been standing for some time it may have become seized
The bike has clearly got low mileage but I don't think that fact justifies a premium price
There's no doubting that a later model with the improved mirrors, glove bix etc is, in my opinion, a better proposition
Either way, good luck with your search, andca very warm welcome to this forum, where you will get honest answers to all your questions and plenty good advice, plus more than a little banter
Thanks BigAlan,
You certainly know these machines, impressed with your attention and care to yours!
I am incredibly fussy with my bikes, maintaining them and cleaning to the hills!! I'll certainly ask all the question and IF I do go for it I'll be looking to get it to this sort of standard. Your information is genuinely appreciated.
Thanks again
LS
Thanks OC
Again a nice welcome and great information which will be a great help in my search!
I know what you mean about pre-sale servicing, had this before at various dealers where it's just an oil and filter change....
Appreciate what you say about premium price, how far above in your opinion is it above where it should be?
Cheers
LC
its difficult to say but I think £6600 is an expected retail price, a private sale might be about £1000 cheaper.
By searching you may find a later model (post 2010) which is a better specified bike. However it may cost a little more.
I do think that the bike you have been looking at looks to be in excellent condition
i agree with all the above service info but a must is to check if the re-calls have been done, i think there were 3 of them. i too would go for the Gen 2 if you can squeeze that little bit more ££££, it would be worth it.
A quick scan of motorcycle news brings up a 10 model with 10,000 miles for £6995 at Chorley Yamaha with full service history, that took seconds so have a sneak about.

Matey offer him 6500 n av it serviced at kwak dealer its not run in yet and youll love it for sure and hell sell it at 6500 cos itll sit there if he dont n he knows that. Dont be frightened to walk away and hell call u back for sure. Welcome aboard 👍😁
Hi Guys,
All great replies and advice, thank you!
Now had a chance to speak to the sales guy, all pretty much as I've said before, all in A1 condition apart from a scuff mark on the top of one of the panniers - probably a boot Mark, getting on/off. Service completed was a basic oil service as it was all it required - I'd have to sort that.
Not much manoeuvre on price so I'll have a think what to do and maybe try again.
Cheers

Hi Wookie,
I'm on the edge of going for it in one some respects, just never brought unseen.
He quoted 109 quid to fit heated grips and 300+ to do Tom Tom nav.
Wookie - what would be your thoughts on replacing the battery, At 7 years old and sub 7000 it's clearly sat around a lot, would you have a new battery fitted for piece of mind? Or just run it until it starts playing up? It's been through workshop so surely battery checked..
Sorry for jumping in...
Heated grips are a nice luxury; easy enough to fit yourself. Do you really plan to do much riding when it's brass monkey weather?
Sat nav: do some research before letting the dealer fit a TomTom. Certain models have be known to not like rain (each raindrop is like the screen being touched, so you can soon find it talking to you in Lithuanian  ) Also, where to mount it needs consideration. Between the bars? (Can't see it if you fit a tank bag!) On the bars? Left or right? etc etc... Again, fitting is an easy DIY job; even the wiring. There are spare connectors under the left black panel (that goes from the instruments down to the tank) that become "live" when you turn the ignition on.
Finally, the battery: it may have spent its entire life on an Optimate, so might well last another 5 years. If you don't know for sure, then the £50 (or there abouts) a new battery will cost is a small price for piece of mind.
Just my twopennyworth. I hope you don't mind
Cheers
Paul B.
PS: Where abouts in Cambs are you (roughly...) We might be neighbours!
Hi Paul,
No I don't mind at all, the more advice on these bikes the better and always good to build knowledge.
I'm in the Huntingdon area, what about you mate?
Best wishes
LS
what Paul said
Sounds like you have fallen for it already lol.... although, when you talk of paying for heated grips etc, you won't be far off later model territory as Big Al has pointed out. Might be worth you looking at the pros and cons of the two models side by side to see what may suit you best.

Mines an 09 plate and im in newmarket should you need any help .
Dont rush into it as said compare gen1 and gen2,i am on my 5th GTR having had 2x gen1 and 2 x gen2 - gen 2 being the better model, i took me 3 month to pull the trigger on my present gen3 bike and 6 month waiting for the correct Van to come along but i got them both to the spec i wanted. Its easy for me to tell you this, but the right machine will come along and you will be glad you waited. Alternatively if you feel this is the right bike then go for it, as wook said 'He Who Hesitates'.
Aye buddy all of the above .
On the battery ...
Because the KIPASS draws a current constantly it's a deffo it has sat on a trickle charger all of its life .
So in all probability it's ok ... me personally would hoof a new batt in coz then you have a deffo start point .
The twat nav and grips is an easy self doo .
If ya gets stuck just holler
Hi LS ,if you should need any of the above fitting in the future im only 20ish mins away and would happily help fit them .

Hey Guys,
Thank you so much to you all for the replies!! You've been a great help with advice on these machines, it's also great that some of you are so local, could be good.....
Well, this morning the dealer emails me and asks if I've made a decision etc, I email back saying that it's a little on the expensive side for a phase 1 and has only had basic servicing so far but I like the bike and am thinking of a potential deal to put forward.....
Come back to an email saying the bikes now sold :-(
Best Wishes

Why would he ask if you have made decision when bike sold. You are better off with gen 2 anyway.

Because he had someone else interested?
Personally I followed none of the advice in this thread. Saw a low mileage 08 with top box and a better looking exhaust and just said yes at 7300.
OK top whack but couldn't be bothered fanny arseing about, bought sight unseen over the phone. Popping back over Friday to have the new TPMS fitted meanwhile on my third tankful in a week since picking her up and well satisfied with my decision
maybe worth a look 232219575018 ebay item number

Was not meant to be - go for the gen2 better bike all round, the upgrade mods were a big improvement
look at motorcycle news and bike trader, there are gen 2 models all around the place to buy, it's a good time as it's,winter but you know that.

Actually, the KIPASS system doesn't draw constant current. If anything is drawing, it's the clock and that's my nute. The KIPASS system only draws after the key knob has been pushed down. The red light goes off in 24 hours. I've let mine sit over a month without issues, sad to say. I've never had a battery tender on it. Possibly you're drawing in negative waves causing the battery to discharge prematurely. :mfr_lol:

Nice low mileage. Needs a new cooker knob and a battery in the fob, by the looks of it
A fellow blood biker that l run with has a tidy 60 plate for sale. I could pass you his number if interested but won't get roped in as a go between

Landshark i honestly wonder if hes putting you on and told you that because he didnt want to do a deal. That seams extremely quick to sell a touring bike out of season. Well if hes true then it wasnt yours anyway and if hes not then he will have it hanging around and end up reducing price anyway. Either way your name is on another bike, the one you were meant to have eh. Chin up n dont give up eh 👍👍👍😁

Take ya time I say.....I wanted a 2010+ bike and looked at a few, fell in love with a few, got disappointed with a few then came across a 2013 model with 325 miles on it from new at £7500 - snapped it up and rode away two days later. Took it straight to my local garage for a full service and have never looked back. That's nearly 12 months ago now, and it's still only got 4500miles on it.
Great bike
Ebay item 152310962262 currently listed on a 62 plate @ £7500 with 10k miles if it helps ?

PR4's!
Definitely Angels.
no one using Avon Storm 3Ds ?
(loved on them on the Brd & St1100 and probably have (including the STorm 2's) over 100k miles racked up on them)

I hear the avows are good. Better than pr4's anyway.
MAXXIS makes for a interesting ride :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Maxxis are OK for the first 2000 or so, but went off quickly after that for me
Yep :agree:
