Title: Hand-friendly Clutch Lever?
Post by: StickyOne on December 19, 2016, 03:02:43 PM
I've had a bit of an issue with an aching left them joint.
Whether it's the joint or the muscles or the tendon I don't really know.
But it's uncomfortable holding the left grip!
When I ride the bike I have to hold the left grip without wrapping my thumb round it in the normal position so it's inline with the fingers!
Using the clutch with my thumb in the 'normal' position is very painful.

I'm not sure what's caused it but it has been giving me gip since I returned from my 4 day trip to France 5 weeks ago.

I have 2 questions:
1. Has anyone else experienced similar discomfort?
2. Is there a modified clutch lever available designed for less of a stretch for the hand? (I have it already set to the closest setting)

I suffered something similar with my right hand after 10 days riding around Europe this year.  Didn't show until day 7 and then kicked in progressively earlier each day.  Liuckily it went away after a week or so with no riding.

You could always consider this option...
Works for my son on his track bike

And how does it operate?

Is there a quick shifter that works on the GTR?
Rode a mates street triple with one and works well, takes the clutch out of up shifts!

I don't use the clutch on the upshifts anyway, on the down shifts I do with a little blip of the throttle.

apologies in advance if this sounds crazy, but have you tried Grip Puppies, this could be a cheaper and easier option. ...just a thought

Yes. Grip puppies are still on.
I might actually try it with them off.
I also don't use the clutch on the way up, only on the way down the gears

I get the same probs in the right thumb joint ..you can try all sorts of gizmos ... it don't help.
Except for IBUPROFEN  gel 3 or 4 times a day for about a week and rest it .
It will return again you can't avoid it ... but doing the above gives a few months respite from pain
It's called . Gettin smeggin old ....er  :mfr_lol:
Also what works as premtive ..if ya going on a long ride ..rub some gel I'm an hr before saddling up
Hope this helps

Its from Kliktronic and combines both levers into one monobloc assembly.  Short lever is front brake and longer one is cable clutch.  My some had a bad accident 21 months ago leaving him with a paralysed left shoulder, arm and hand.  No motor or sensory sensation.

He was determined to get back on 2 wheels, so he has a semi-automatic 850 Aprilia for the road and I've converted a ZX9R track bike for one-handed use for him
