Title: Trimming original seat....
Post by: Paul3068 on December 13, 2016, 09:48:23 PM
Hi guys
Just bought this the bike recently as some people maybe aware but I seem to be struggling a little with the seat height, a common problem reading other people's posts, I'm not short either
I approached a upholstery guy near me, he reckons he may be able to trim some off
Anybody done this to the original seat???
Regards paul

The standard seat gives numb bum after a short while , take out what bit of padding it does have ,and you might as well sit on a plank , which would help you with the height prob ,

Bloody hell!! It's the biggest seat I've ever sat on lol😀 lots more padding than my old Gsxr
I've not ridden many miles on it though so time will tell on that😬

I'd be interested to find out how you get on.
I could do with sitting an inch lower.
I got numb bum riding it home when I first bought it but haven't suffered since, and I've done a few miles now, including all day riding in France.
Could do with a touch more comfort though if possible.

On a gixer you are lent over bum barely touching The seat ,all the weight on the wrists , gtr sat upright all on the bum , plenty of discussion on here on seats , followed by screens ,  oh and a million on tps ,,,  :mfr_lol: :biker3:

i have trimmed other seats not a GTR, as you say there is plenty of padding to go at. I would suggest you trim the sides making it slightly narrower therefore giving you a lower better stance without compromising the comfort.

:agree:  trimming the OEM seat is a final move and cannot be easily undone,  I don't know what costs you are looking at but have you considered an aftermarket seat instead ?

Been looking at aftermarket ones but like I say I've spent a bloody fortune already on it so funds are low, this guy has been in the business for years, my mates getting his done to so I might let him do his first!!! Lol

I had the same thought.  Many things can affect how you 'sit' on the bike.  I've found carrying a passenger helps loads.  Boots with big heels is always a plus.  If you get a replacement seat, that can affect it.  I got a Russel and it made me sit a tad higher.  Changing rear tire size can hurt...I think to the 55?  It's one or the other, can't remember.  I think the 55 is 'taller'.

Yeah 55 is higher sidewall, been in touch with TONY archer who specialised in seats for bikes and cars,
30 quid and only takes an hour so I may try him😄

That wouldn't happen to be SADDLE CRAFT by any chance ?
Ok here's a thought ...why not get shorter dog bones to lower the bike and if necessary pull the forks up thru the yokes ..a shit load cheep er than a new seat ..and if you find out that doesn't work for you then do the expensive option of a seat
Just sayin like

No it's TONY archer himself, has his own. Business under the same name, one of the lads mentioned him on here and he's not to far away in Huddersfield
As for the suspension change I'm not over keen on changing the geometry of the bike,I can afford 30quid too to sort the seat lol

I trimmed the foam with an angle grinder, you've got to be extremely cautious though as theres no resistance. As somebody else said I took it off the sides mainly. It still wasn't enough so I bought these, slightly longer but stacks lower, an excellent buy.
