So the triumph trophy do we have any opinions at all. I actually like it as it happens and im amazed wmb didnt pipe up because it is very alike the 1200 rt me thinks.
I know triumph have been improving over the years and their triple engine seems to be reliable so it would be a contender if i did decide to downgrade from my gtr lol.
I would consider it. Before buying my second gtr I tried to test ride one but nobody seemed to have a demo.
It doesn't look as sleek and pretty and as venomous as our GTR.
But nevertheless if you are looking at downgrading it's worth a look.
Personally I think its a very good looking bike, it has a smaller engine and less power but weighs less than the GTR. I agree that it doesn't possess the aggressive stance of the GTR, but what other comparable bike does ?
I have never ridden one but it has very good specification, (I did own a Tiger 1050 in 2007 and it had a great engine with loverly induction noise.)
What I DO like very much is Triumphs website which allows configuration of bikes and it's very navigable , TBH it makes Kawasakis site look a bit sick IMHO

I have a 16 plate Trophy in my garage at the moment [Bloodbike]
Personally I think it is a bit top heavy compared to the GTR, riding position is more upright and it feels a bit bland compared to the GTR, but it pulls like a train, the screen is so much more better than the GTR [ I can ride visor up if I want to, and no earplugs if I wanted to] plus it has decent under seat storage.

What he said. I also found the suspension quite solid and the brakes didn't have much feel. However, a GTR does spoil you.

There's a new SE in the local Triumph dealer at £13,500. It seems like a lot of bike for the money, however they have not managed to move it in many months. They also have a couple of used Trophy's, again in stock for a long time. Perhaps a good buy if you want to hold onto it for a good while, maybe less so if you decide to resell fairly quickly?
The trophy does seem a bit bland compared to other bikes ,such is The choice out there at the moment , when triumph sold off the sprint with full luggage for £8999 ,there did seem to be a lot of them about on the road , mabe a £2000 price drop they will go the same way , the gtr does have a presence about it and a touch of class. , :biker3:
Haveing just got rid of a Triumph Triple I would say if you want to be bored ..get one ...
If you want loads of electrical probs get a Triumph .http://www.triumph-trophy.com/index.php ..
If you want a bike that is reportedly being DROPPED from production ..get a Triumph Trophy
If you love your engine to rattle like a bag of false teeth
Get a Triumph Triple
If you want STILL air and peace and quite sanitised experience ... get a Trophy .
Apparently
If you like washing your bike and it refusing to start and lekkys to fail ...Buy a Trophy
Yes it's a good looking bike .. not as pokey as the GTR but the torque curve is sooo flat you will snooze ...A LOT .
Close up inspection there is a HUGE air gap between front of engine and front of fairing .looks kinda Chinese design .
It's the same frame as the Triumph Exploder ..nowt wrong there ...but it is generic across several genres.
It has some serious re occurring electrical probs and the fuel map is shite.
Also you can't use Tune.Ecu program to tweak it or change any parameters .
It isn't a bad bike .. it just ain't a good un. .. does it stir your soul ??? Well it didn't do it for me ..and I NEARLY bought a new one .. until I got on owners forums here and the states .
If it ain't a Jap .. how long before it breaks down ...
OH and it has WMB like diff failures
Mack .. make ya own mind up ..but do world wide forums research mate
Hope this helps you 😊

Awwww shucks fanks guys :mfr_lol:
O.C luv ya you auld fart xx :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Aye it was a biggie Mack but it was the result of months of listening reading and talking to owners .
On paper it's a brill bike ..but seriously flawed in the electronics and possible engine life
Thats a shame wook it looks like such a nice bike. O well they cant say they havent had time to get it right eh? Maybe they should sack the number crunchers and spend some more money in r and d. Maybe come up with something to truly rival the big three/four.
Yeah that seems to be the problem with Triumph .. rush a product on to the market and sort it later !!
It's a shame coz there twins seem good .. but the triple in all guises seems to have had head or cam shaft probs .. or electronics
A friend has an old 2002 Trophy 1200 (4 cyl) that has nearly 100k on it.
Only problems have been with the fuel hoses splitting.
:agree: Boomer the 4 cyl was pretty darned good ... but somehow Triumph went 3 cyls and tried to beat more advanced European bikes ...
They put a LOT of faith in modular components... and all new models produced at once carry the same faults .
Tiz a pity
Just been out on the Trophy, I had forgot how shite the mirrors are. :mfr_lol:
All Triumph seem interested to me at the moment is the retro/custom/bobber/flat tracker Shoreditch beard and brylcream brigade, lovely bikes but very overpriced
Do ya think theyll ever realise what potential there is in their bikes if theyd only put some money into them. Shame cos they would sell i think if theyd stop cheapskating.
I was under the impression that the latest 1200 Explorer was a good machine, perhaps demonstrating that Triumph have learned from past problems with that bike
Ah well that would be a good thing for them. Is it an all new engine and running gear. Have they revamped their electricals? A good bike first of all has to be reliable, look great and then exciting to ride as well as being long distance comfortable and sip juice ideally. Get that combo and youve cracked it. Cheapskate and you ultimately pay the price in the long run me thinks 🤔

Mac in answer to your questions, ermm dunno.....ermmmm dunno. ......ermmm dunno.....and dunno about the rest of what you said except the cheapskate bit, Ive looked and a top of the range current model Explorer doo dah thingy and it's £15,000.00.... eeeek
Ah o c their price tag is them profiteering but what they actually spend on parts to make it is another thing. The problem is using cheap parts its bites you on the ar.. in the end because reliability lets you down then your buyers dry up. Look at japanese cars and bikes. For the most part they are very reliable because they spend whats needed in designing them properly. Honda cars and bikes are among the most reliable machines made. You cant cheapskate 😟

Interesting Mac,
I have a couple of good friends who have Tiger 800s and they use them a lot and have done over 3 -4 years, they report very good reliability, one of them is very very particular about his bikes and is about to order his third Tiger 800, he hasn't had any problems at all, and he does put some miles on his bikes

Nah am mare soba than tho pope
And ah still wudnt get a Trophy
Too many electrical conflict fr cheep chinese sensors .
And honestly every triple I have heard including me own that has more than 15k on it sounds like a bag of rusty anchor chains being dragged around by a sony JCB .
Even WMB Ditch pumps sound better ...
And DON'T get me started on Triumph gear boxes !!!!
Water ingress .. me an me m8 for the 3rd year in a row in Alps and it pissed down .. is 05 tiger clocks FLOODED speedo chucked it as did the Rev counter .. fuel gauge was 1 min full then arf then empty etc .. idiot lights all on then winkING ... mine was a 10 plate .. same problem .. if Tripe motorcycles can't seal down a long standing model like the tiggur a more cplicated Trophy has NO chance
. Nor the EXPLODER

Have tested the Trophy each year since it came out.
It is top heavy, better two up and definitely needs the correct suspension set up dialing into it to get the best from it.
Has a 'cheap' feel to it - feels and looks like a 1977 Allegro dashboard.
The onboard computer is a nightmare to use. It is not intuitive and over complex. The ergonomics are poor. Setting the cruise control is difficult due to it's position and being on the throttle side. Other controls on the left 'bar require a thumb the length of a baboons to operate.
It has a slight understeer, but as a tourer it works well handling/chassis wise.
The engine is awesome, pulls well and has character, but has to be worked hard to get the best from it - not unpleasant but could do with being a bit more lazy for a touring bike.
Solo, with the massive dimension top box, it can feel a tad unstable when riding with spirit (!)
Overall I quite liked it, but it isn't a bike I'd have in my garage
love the Allegro a analogy Chris :mfr_lol:
:agree: didn't we all ...till the bugger went wrong and got rusty worms disease :mfr_lol:

Lol then im reminded of the first car i owned but never got on the road my riley one point five haha what a great car. I started my work life as an apprentice mechanic restoring vintage cars mainly rileys. Aah those were the days loved getting greasy n pullin em apart haha 😃
Ive had 2 Sprints and a Speedtrifle , all 1050s . The engines are brill and sound brill. Ive got a Thruxton R now, deeply brilliant tooand very fast. My gtr also has some dogs bollocks .
i am thinking of changing the monster for something more sensible in my mature years :punk:, i like the look of the Thunderbird 1600 although i would have to have a test ride first, i also like the guzzi California and W800
I've ridden a Guzzi CA.... Always liked Guzzi..

Not if you like corners you won't :mfr_lol:
Yep the Tripe..el. motor is good ... but just my penned is that it isn't a high mileage engine .. ok ah know there are some out there that are heading up to 750k + likewise some GTRs .
But we're as anyone of us with the beast can safely put those sort of miles on... it isn't the norm with the Tripe engine.
Yes modular design makes for lower production costs and yes other manufacturers are following suit.
But Triumph keep shooting their bikes in the foot with rushed development and poor out sourced parts .
Anyhoooo CHERRY MISTMAS everyone ... celebrate life ..go on ya know ya want too :mfr_lol:
The t1600 is huge. Awkward to shuffle around id think. Ive just traded a w800 for my gtr. Its beautiful but slow, so if you ride with others youll soon feel awkward , and flog it .
:agree:
I understand that the W800 is now out of production, due no doubt to the dreaded Euro 4. In late November there were, apparently five in dealer stock around the country, various specifications amongst these. Seastar Superbikes (Norfolk) still have an all black version in the Showroom.
I've owned a W650, which was bloody good fun without the hassle of a 'real' Brit bike and yes, I've had a couple of them too :embarrassed:
I test rode a M.G Stelvio once..uuuurgh it was a pig which I didn't like
I think the Thunderbird 1600 is antisocial (in respect of pillions) it might be ok for solo riders though, if I was ever to go down that route I would have to try a Rocket 3
Its interesting that at our age (collectively speaking) that we are aware of our increasing age and the associated difficulties with a heavy bike such as the GTR

You are all missing the point, its not an age thing but a saving my licence thing- on the monster i will go balls out n all and soon enough i will lose my licence or dead. Not bothered about pillion as i have the GTR for that just want something whereby i can see the scenery as it goes by. The weight is not an issue as my feet would be quite planted being much lower. OC you need a Rocket up your Ar*e for even suggesting such an agricultural 2 wheel monstrosity :mfr_lol:
Now then where did i put my Pipe and slippers :nono:
And the t/bird is a Twin not a triple!!

The W650 was soooo much better than BSA TRIUMPH or NORTON could ever produce .
And history is repeating it's self again .
I may just post a couple of pics of my W650 which I owned alongside several other bikes I had at the time, and I'll post some pictures of the Brit bikes I owned at the same time
