Title: New member from Outer Hebrides
Post by: Lewisman on December 11, 2016, 02:49:21 PM
Hi everyone,
just retired, so treating myself to a new GTR, picking it up on Tuesday. I'm coming off sportbikes as I reckon I needed more comfort, and I liked the looks and features of the GTR more than other tourers when I saw it at this years NEC show. No chance to see or test ride one up here, so it'll be interesting to find out what its like! Looking forward to the forum

Welcome to the mad house.

Many of us have made the switch to the GTR from sports bikes and still have a big smile on there face, the GTR is not slow by any means.

This forum has a lot of knowledge you just have to ask, I suspect you will be adding stuff to your bike just like the rest of us.

Have fun riding the bike, it's a blast.

A very warm welcome from North Yorkshire  Lewisman, and congratulations on your new GTR

There's absolutely no doubt that you will love the GTR, and this forum is the right place to be to ask any questions that you may have......there's loads of good advice and plenty p☆ss taking too, so join in the fun.

Your first accessories should be a Radiator guard and a rear hugger

:185: Although to add to OCs Comments, ( even though between us we have had 9 GTRs so well qualified to advise lol ) your first task will be to give a most recent picture of you, to family and friends as they will be seeing a lot less of you when the Beast arrives  :whistling:

Just wondering Lewisman......what colour did you choose ?

Hi Thanks for the welcome. I'm getting the two tone grey, it was either that or the blue, which is OK but I think the greys are nicer. I've seen black on YouTube which I like even more but that may be for the US bikes only? I called into MCO Orrell on the way back from the bike show and ordered one. At the show the GTR's had suffered quite bad marking of the panniers from everyone climbing over the bikes, so I've got some Helicopter tape to help stop me from doing the same! . Thankyou OC for the advice about hugger and radiator guard. That radiator is a beautiful piece of engineering, but vulnerable,  and I was thinking I'd better fit a guard, and while I was about it a front fender extender and rear hugger too. What makes are the ones to go for, for the GTR?
Catch you later

Radiator guards are available from R&G or Beowulf products, both are good quality, Pyramid products will sell you a hugger

I guess you may have dealt with Charles at MCO ? He's a very nice chap and most helpful

Black was available for 2015 model year and proved to be very popular,  its unlikely there are any left for sale now

Metallic moondust Gray, is the fastest colour and coincidentally the same as mine    :mfr_lol:

:stupid: and  :agree:....Silver/gray is far MORE superior than other colours  :mfr_lol:
Yep this is my 2nd GTR and the 15/16 model is sooo different than the earlier models .
Comein from a sports bike the only thing that MAY take you by supreme is the GTR needs a positive input to make her turn especially in a quick S bend .
However you soon adapt and don't even notice it .
Also get a laminar lip ..bout 80 quid ... the screen the GTR comes with is the TALL option and a good few of us 6 footers find that this lip solves a bit of a buffeting problem.
Although the bike comes with heated grips ..you won't need em ..why ? Kawasaki has looked at what owners were putting on their bikes as aftermarket products ...one of them being wind deflectors made by PROJECKD ...so the wingless are now part of the aero package changes and it's bloody effective.
Brakes are outstanding ..however I find that the FULL link setting too severe so it reset mine to the soft option and it gives you access to safe tear trail braking in corners .
All in all ya gonna love this machine .. its a corks. ..
Enjoy Lewisman from a geordie
Hope this is of use to you

Hi, picked the bike up yesterday, only had a short trip back home from the ferry and it was windy so was a bit concerned. First impressions, lovely smooth engine, doesn't stall at low revs!! (coming off a succession of big V twins) easy to balance and ride slowly, easy gearbox no clunking, lovely comfortable seat, much less affected by the wind than I feared, but I can't feel what the tyres are doing as it feels like my bum is anaesthetised. I kept the screen on its lowest setting, not sure I want to look through it to see the road. No speed for a while as its running in. I like the protection from the fairing and with those big mirrors I can at last see what's behind me!! Be nice too if my hands are protected enough to not need the heated grips. I'm hoping the handling will be OK, Wookie, I expect it will need more input and just learn to trust the tyres. 42psi front and rear right? Anyway its in my garage now and looks great
Catch you later

Ive ridden 5 GTR's including my own, in fact I bought mine because of riding the other 4, and never noticed any handling issues on any of them. 42psi front and rear is good.

Enjoy your new bike.

The BRIDGESHITEs the bike comes with are HORRENDOUS ..they were on my 09 and are still shite on my 16 .
You can't generate any heat in the front .. well not in this weather ... drop the front to 40 psi or the lowest you can go without activating the sensor warning is 38 psi .
It will as am sure you know will put a bigger footprint on the road and help gen a bit of heat .
Concensus of opinion is replace when ready with mitchellin  P.R 4 GTS or Pirellie Angel GTS .
Ya in the same boat as me running it in .. ah only gave managed 200 miles ...bit embarrassing really .
Normally achieve the 1st service after 2 days  :mfr_lol:
