Title: Chicken strip
Post by: Macskwak on December 08, 2016, 10:14:21 AM
Saw this n wondered if it was fake. Would you really chance getting your knee down on our bikes? Id be terrified of the sound of money being left all over the road if you hit oil and i did drop a cg125 many years ago because of a deisel spill on a roundabout in hertfordshire. I was courier riding and one second im leaning round the roundabout and the next im looking at a mondeo grill. The driver of which got out to check me then found the streak of deisel. Been nervous of damp weather ever since. I think the lorry drivers fill up to the filler neck which gives no room for turning sharp and the fuel comes out the air hole. I mean what driver is ever gonna use his entire tank anyway. Most smart drivers never go below quarter tank anyway or they drag all the crap from the tank up.  :biker3:

Or maybe im just gettin old 😩

I suppose it's possible, good dry road and warmed up tyres, and confidence  but apart from showboating...why would you.
I sometimes have gone into a bend and on one shoulder the guy with horn's is saying "Go on give it a go", but on the other shoulder common sense is saying, " Your not that good"!!!
I can see the reason on track, and racer's often "save' their bikes on the knee, but they are very light machines, unlike the GTR. I couldn't see me saving mine from going down on the knee
And on our fine roads I for one wouldn't try it.
However respect for those that do

GTR is way too heavy for that in my book, I used to manage to scrape the sliders on my leathers when I had much lighter sports bikes though

Must say that I often scrape the toe of my boots at roundabouts...there isn't much in the way of chicken strips on my rear bike tyre, I don't see that as a macho thing just a reflection on how I ride, which isn't fast BTW   just that I do lean the bike quite a lot

I'm not much of a knee down merchant but shared one of the GTR blood bikes with a bloke who would always bring it back minus my chicken strips. Made me look good at events when the young guns come round checking your back tyre. They think the quickest rider is the one with no strips.

Haha nice. I had minimal strip on my old cbr 600 i loved the twistys on that but my nerve doesnt hold out on the gtr. It just feels too heavy to throw about although i do like the twistys but in a i wont hear my wallet getting reamed way lol

Looking at the pic , it looks like the camber of the road tilts , so if you go at that bend lent well off the bike you end up with a photo such as that , if any body has done cadwell park , when you go into hall bends the track has a simalar bend that makes it easy. To get your knee down , most folk are going slow to get the knee down to do it at very fast speed is where the skill comes from ,  my style is more Mike hailwood , not Marc Marquez ,, , :biker3:

Manufacturers NEVER list the on board KIDNEY puncher or the pound foot it delivers at .....
Anyone else ever come across this mechanical medical device .......

I was on a tour once with a 76 year old vicar who has ridden bikes all his life. He came down to breakfast on the Sunday morning wearing a tee shirt emblazoned with a picture of a rider with his knee down and emblazoned with the slogan.

" Its Sunday, get on one knee and pray"

Very fitting given his calling.

I consider my chicken strip's as my insurance policy against that "Just in case I have to moment", once they are gone there is nothing left except tarmac

Aye me too. Mack and O.C but the big K is more than capable of doodin it .
As for getting up from low down ........
One used to awake in a morning and get up with the horn !
Now older one gets up with a full blown sou nd track ....
And if Mrs WoOk arises at the same time it's a STEREO soundtrack  :mfr_lol:

To be honest, lost the heart in motorcycling in general.  But I guess thats how the cookie crumbles.

Just goes to show what a heavy un-maneuverable bike we have..   Thanks.  The next one that complains about how heavy this bike is, we'll just run that advert again.  Not that I can ride like that, of course.

Ref chicken bits ... the coupon is from the back of the chicken .. it is the only semi decent bit on there .. we used to bin them into pet food as inferior meat .. however they now seem to be fashionable tucker !!
Ref GTR 100 chicken strips .. yes I am of the skool of remove the tyre glaze in a safe prepared manner ie meening to get her that far over .. coz ya never know when in a panic ya gonna need edge grip.
However ... she is a BIG girl and pushing the front hard as in riding her like a sports bike can and WILL overwhelm the tyre .
I run the front at 40psi and it allows more rubber to be squished into the tarmac facilitating a bit more hooliganism .
Ref getting ya knee down ...
Mack our joints have been pummeled enuff .. sod slapping em on the road on purpose  :mfr_lol:
