Title: Driverless cars
Post by: O.C. on November 22, 2016, 08:17:21 AM
WTF is all that about, now they think it will be difficult to prove who's in control of a driverless equipped  car in the event of an accident   .

I like driving, and if I don't want to drive I can allus use a bus pass  :mfr_lol:  or get on a train

:agree: and think I'm a young 'un!
It's the insurance that gets me, you are not driving the car, so why have insurance?
Would it be the software design / operating system company, as their software is in control?
Or would it be the manufacturer of the car or component that causes or caused the issue?
Was there ever a prosecution over that death in a Tesla in the USA?
Believe auto-pilot was in use..........hmmmmmmmmm!      :undecided:
Firm believer in that you have to demonstrate you can drive before let loose on the roads, but seeing the standard out there nowadays perhaps the time has come!

Just renewed me bus pass, preferable to using a driverless car, mind you with the traffic chaos in and around London the damn things will probably go into sleep mode  :innocent:  :innocent:

I listened to a presentation by the chief scientist from thr Trl, transport research laboratory a few days ago. This technology is further down the development route than is realised. Many elements are already in cars today. Interesting talk.

Its I Robot.....  it'll become sociably unacceptable to drive, but you have the right to have offspring that can't read or right normally!

Just hope Darwin cuts in early enough to be like the matrix, where you can liquidiize them and feed it back to the incredibly stupid who doesn't think they have been playing with our food sources for years!....

Sorry, I'll shut up now!

I wish everyone had self driving cars.
Then I could sleep or read through my commute.
That said I will miss riding the bike.

As for danger, I'd far rather ride through a city full of computer driven cars than one full of the current crop of self centred incompetent so called drivers. On my 60 mile morning commute I see on average 4 bonehead moves (potential crashes) and at least 20 people fiddling with ther phone/satnav at 70mph. Humans are all (yes, this includes you,... and me) utterly crap at driving compared to even the current crop of driverless cars and they are getting better very rapidly,...and what's more the driverless cars are 99.99% predictable.

Driving/riding can be an escape and fun if it's done for leisure.
When you do it for a living or else to get to where you earn your living it just plain sucks.

I agree boomer.
I drive a double decker into Birmingham most days and In rush hour when stuck in the traffic on the duel carriage way the amount of lane changing and close call to move a car space or two is unreal.
I pass the time counting people on the phone and such like  :censored: .
It probably takes 20 mins to half hour to go a couple of miles my record at the moment is 10 on the phone 1 fellow shaving and 1 woman doing her hair and makeup  :death:

Here we are worried about travelling in driverless cars and yet we're all happy to fly when the pilot has flicked on the auto pilot! I know which I'd rather crash in!!  :whistling:

interesting view Steve

The views expressed seem to highlight the difference between those of us that live and travel in ths countryside  and those of you doing battle in towns and cities

We're the bother lies chaps is when u mix driverless digital cars which will only dood what there programed to dood.
Then you have an analogue human that is unpredictable which the sensors on the digital motor cant predict or cope with the illogical moves of said human  :mfr_lol:

Like the picture in the paper the other day the pilot  he left the novice pilot in the cabin and went to chat to the hostesses lucky the new fellow took a selfie instead of crashing the plane while depressed or had a medical condition
