Title: Old exhaust back on n happy
Post by: Macskwak on November 21, 2016, 04:28:35 PM
Well i finally got tired of not hearing myself think cos of my aftermarket noisy can. A pal of mine had his original potato gun on ebay n not able to sell it so i grabbed it off him and put it on tday. Oh the quiet bliss. More importantly is the fact that it runs so much more smoothly and throttle control is noticeably improved. On the downside its not as quick but you know what,im old😒 So my racing days are over anyway. Cant believe how smooth it is now and best of all i can hear my music now 😃😃👍

:tank: :gunsmilie:

I have the Beauwolf (sp) and would never put the spud gun back on, well I would when and if I sell the bike but that's all.

To quiet.

The first thing I did on my 2010 GTR 1400 was to change the butt ugly spud launcher... not because of the sound :nono: same with the zzr1400 2 big sod off black exhausts that are nearly as big as the bike :hammer: what was kawasaki thinking of when designing theses exhausts.. they make great bikes then fit butt ugly exhausts.. if a o.e.m exhaust looks ok then don't see the reason to change it

Love the original exhaust would never change it. It is designed for bike so will not muck up any settings.

Kawasaki approved Akrapovic on mine, looks great sounds beautiful (not loud, just mellow) and lighter than OEM,   ticks all my boxes

OEM pipe carefully wrapped and stored in garage loft

Only thing wrong with the stocker is that it's quite ugly..  Oh, two things wrong...it's quite heavy as well.  Other than that it's the cat's pajamas.

Agreed Akrapovic is the way to go  had them on my zzr1400's look great and sound great.. bloody expensive thou but if you want the best then you pay. I'm  :undecided: on changing the o.e.m chrome exhaust on my b.m.w r1200 GS TE LC it's not over sized for the bike and it makes a decent sound would not say it was to quite either. Akrapovic b.m.w use is the HP Akrapovic which is the same size in Lenght and width also little difference in sound also the weight saving is only 0.5 kg..   so will chew on that a bit longer  but if I do decide to change the exhaust it will only be for a Akrapovic
However.. would like your opinion on the o.e.m exhaust on the GS before I spend my hard earned cash.

Dave the only two differences you would achieve by fitting an Akrapovic to your new bike is a slight difference in sound and a substantial hole in your wallet    :mfr_lol:

Leave it as it is...just my ten penneth

BTW I purchased a second hand little used Akrapovic pipe which I fitted to my Super Tenere,  it sounded nice and was massively lighter, when I changed the bike I sold the Akra and made a slight profit

Thanks for the feed back  if it was a big sod off exhaust then it would have to go  for the usually "run of the mill" o.e.m bike exhausts.. Mr b.m.w has not done to bad at all  Some one at b.m.w has COCK UP HERE!

Yep one prob with my old 1100rt was that it was so damn quiet in a farty kind of way you know prrrrrrm prrrrrrm prrrrrrm through the gears. I like a quiet bike too but it was too quiet me thinks. Maybe its the boxer engine. Maybe you cant make em loud short of leaving the headers off lol

We did the same. As soon as we got back from Austria trip in June, the original exhaust went back on. Much better ride and the smoother ride is worth the ugly looks. The exhaust is not too good looking either.

surprisingly.. the sound of the exhaust on my GS sounds good.. I've always bought Kawasaki and as you know the exhausts don't do the bikes any favours  I'm use to changing exhausts but when I seen the o.e.m exhaust and heard the sound also only 0.5 kg heavier that say the Akrapovic exhaust thought I'm wasting my dosh here

the single Akarapovic exhaust over the o.e.m exhaust on the 2016 Gs is only 0.5 kg lighter.. but I assume you have a GTR so the GTR 1400 exhaust is a big heavy brute... if I remember correctly the o.e.m exhaust on my 2010 GTR weighed 9 kg and the akrapovic titanium  for the GTR weighed 4 kg so there is a big weight saving for you

Seem to remember someone taking a standard tato launcher and chopping a lump off thenrefixing end cap. I think there was welding to be done too though. Anyone remember that post?🤔🤔🤔

To be honest 2kwaks your gonna spend a fortune on an akrapovic badge cos thats pretty much all the difference from your stock exhaust. Theyll even look very similar and your stock ones designed for the bike including its running efficiency.
Bike looks well by the way. I do like the gs. I bet the water cooling helps out eh? 👍👍

can't blame you for that  but you don't need to spend that much to get a nicer exhaust than the o.e.m exhaust on your gtr  I fitted Remus on my 2010 gtr half the weight and half the price than akrapovic looks and sounds good. here is a pic of my 2010 gtr with a view of lake Como in the back ground  and if you fancy a titanium remus here is a pic of a friends gtr this pic is not in the italian lakes thou  it was taken in morecambe on our way home from a long weekend trip in Scotland

The water cool boxer engine is a massive improvement over the air cooled boxer engine.. in fact the whole bike is improved in every way  I ride the air cooled boxer rt1200 at work and when we got a new model rt1200 water cooled on demo I took it for a spin and noticed a big difference over the air cooled model.. smoother/faster/better position of the switch gear/clock layout/cruise control and everthing eles have not mentioned  and due to the new counter balance shaft design the new water cooled boxer engine runs a lot smoother and doesn't sway.. or shake ya teeth loose when idling or revving at standstill.. only time will tell if I will miss the big kawasaki engines.. but up to now I happy with the choice  plus it as defo slowed me down which was one of the main reasons for a change of bike. but although the b.h.p is down 90 b.h.p over the zzr it still as 125 b.h.p so you can still end up in jail but it's type of bike that slows you down because you don't feel as if you want let rip all the time.. the zzr1400 is so intoxicating you just want more and more.. plus you don't need to buy a rear tyre every other month

 the gearbox is improved as is the complete bike.. but mine is with fitted the b.m.w  pro gear assist which is excellent for fast up and down clutchless gear changes..

all gear boxes clunk in first gear all my zzr's clunk good style..suppose the b.m.w r1200 is no exception it not as smooth going from 1st to 2nd when using the pro shift  as it is in 3rd 4th 5th or 6th same with coming down the box. but I find the gear box to be fine and smooth.. in fact there are 2 things on the GS that I never had on a bike before and now wonder how the hell I managed with out them  the pro gear shift is excellent it even blips the throttle on down shifts.. the other is the cruise control.. not the normal twistie button on the handle bar grip  which is useless.. this cruise control works the same as in the b.m.w car.. switch it on.. resume/slow down/speed up. using the brakes/clutch or simple turning it off cancels the cruise control.

I'm not taking the piss out of the old style cruise control  it work  but was not perfect by any means.. it is fitted on my works bikes on the older rt1200 air cooled and I chose not to use it.. it did give me a few :shit:ty moments  but b.m.w have now "BOXED" off "no pun intended"  cruise control on bikes. on my zzr 1400's and the gtr 1400 I used to use one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motor-Motorbike-Throttle-Assist-Rest-Cruise-Control-Grips-For-Harley-Black-ABS-/251726725777?hash=item3a9c150291:g:eJwAAOSwaNBUbuje but that was more for being able to stretch your fingers out and take the weight of your wrist  it work.. but a few times  when moving off or turning around tight places my wrist could catch which allow more revs :sweatdrop: which is a big  :nono:  on the zzr or the gtr. so binned that for safety reasons and self preservation.

P.S my thoughts on the GTR is.. kawasaki will not be with out a big tourer in such a competitive market such as touring  the present GTR may not meet the new euro emissions but the zzr1441 dose  so my bet is kawasaki will use the 1441 engine most likely will detune it and alter the gearing. also to keep up with technology kawasaki most likely will offer factory fit option which will be  similar to the cruise control b.m.w which will would most likely add £300 to the list price and let buyers decided if they want cruise control or not.. it would also be a good idea " not for the dealers thou" to fit tyre sensors so the battery which only cost £2.00.. can be changed every time a new tyre is fitted. that way you pay £2.00 never have battery low warning and not face a £300 bill to replace the sensor and code to the e.c.u.
