I have a givi Maxia Monokey top box mounted onto a Phils farkles top box plate, its never been what I would call solid and has always rattled a bit. Recently it's become more rattley, I have already fitted some high density foam padding to the top box plate which does help to quieten things down.
Has any one else with this top box plate experienced a similar rattle ?
New foam padding has now been applied
Rog
I don't have that top box but had the same issue with the standard 47L Kawasaki one so I removed the black plastic original mounting which bolts to the bike and which the top box mounting fixes to, I had it scanned and a 5mm alloy chequer plate version water jetted out (a mate works at a high end engineering company) I then bolted this to th bike and the mounting plate to this, ok it still rattles a touch but nothing like the original.
I hope that made sense but I am in the warm and the bike is in the garage and I am not moving.
I know that feeling..
Givi do replacement top case rubbers. I modded mine and put them through the top box.Heres a link and a pic of mine.you maybe able to see the rubbers. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Givi-or-Kappa-Z2710-Rubber-Bungs-Spacers-for-SRA-KRA-Aluminium-Racks-E251-/121769983565 (http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x459/wildybeast/kawasaki%20rack%20mod/20150415_092451.jpg) (http://s1182.photobucket.com/user/wildybeast/media/kawasaki%20rack%20mod/20150415_092451.jpg.html) .Do a search as there maybe other sizes available. ,
Thanks Wildy....just so I am clear.....did you simply replace the standard Givi mushroom bungs with the ones shown in the link which look much better ?
heres a better pic.changed to the smaller ones as i think they were thicker.drilledthrough the box and placed them so they landed on the raised sections.the box fits directly on top of phils rack (http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x459/wildybeast/Helibars/20161102_115621_1.jpg) (http://s1182.photobucket.com/user/wildybeast/media/Helibars/20161102_115621_1.jpg.html)
I just put strips of 1 inch sticky backed foam on the bottom of the box.
I just placed them upside down on the plate ( sticky side up ) and put the box on if I don't use the box no eyesore stick on the rack

Thanks again, I thought that you had drilled the box, but I wanted to be sure
TBH I'm reluctant to drill the box, but I will try some of the larger bungs you recommended ....thanks

Good shout pross, that's basically what I have already done, I guess the foam I used has thinned out, so I'll try some fresh along with Wildys idea
Thanks both

If you can get the insulation foam it's called closed cell to stop air and water getting through its firmer and doesn't lose its shape or thickness a bit dearer. There is a link below showing what I mean
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEOPRENE-SPONGE-FOAM-SELF-ADHESIVE-STRIP-5MTR-3MM-6MM-10MM-THICK-/121388027214
.
thanks for the link pross, I will get some of that.
Daisy, same thing has happened here, Phils rack is great but a bit loose on the fittings for a givi box I think
You can also get a rubber type the same sticky backed which does not compress much.
A lot firmer but longer lasting.
I als use a thinner one called armaflex it's about 3 mm thick but this is used in my fishing box to protect my floats :mfr_lol:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Armaflex-Outdoor-Insulation-Temperature-Resistant/dp/B006BYFTIM
Car sticky back foam isolaters .. work a treat and can be cut down very nicely with the wife's best bread knife :mfr_lol:
I cut an old wetsuit to suit the shape of the back plate. 3-4mm thick neoprene - doesn't lose its thickness and doesn't hold water. Works a treat
