Went to remove the toolbox holder on my 2013 gtr to find it is fixed in place by 4 one way screws. It seems an odd set up just to secure it. Is this standard or has it been altered previously?
Dremmel is your friend,
If I'm correct others have cut a slot into the top and then unscrewed with a flat blade screwdriver
I used a very sharp punch and managed to get them just undone a bit before long nosed pliers were my friend, replaced with stainless steel ones.
Stupid idea.
Thanks guys. What an odd place to use them :hammer:
Drilled the heads off mine.Steady as not to melt the plastic. Then mole grips to unscrew whats left
Agreed. A stupid idea. I guess the thinking behind it was to protect the ECU . You have to remove the tooltray to get to the ECU. Got my dealer to remove them when I first took possession of the bike
Im now in process of adjusting tappets. Will put up pics when done. In my travels taking the job on ive seen alan head bolts that should not be, alan sizes that seem random , bolts that are 12 mm not our usual 13mm. 14mm bolts not our 15mm and 8mm not our 10mm. Odd sizes. Well i guess they would see ours as odd on the flip side. Still ,got 1alan bolt on a frame brace thats not budging all others popped undone with a little force. Anyway i did the drill them out and replace them thing with my tool tray (08 gtr). Hope you get on ok matey
By the way my pics will be post fairing being taken off. I assume if you cant get your fairing off its not a good idea to attempt tappet adjustment :mfr_lol:
Bloody hell Mack, whats the background to your bike ? Has it been previously rebuilt?

Ah no oc i just new it needed tappet check because i cant confirm it had them checked at 52000 i just want to be sure. I only picked it up with 52000 on it so ill be safe than sorry you know. I like tinkering with it. My illness has kept me home for so long and i cant sit still at the best of times lol. Wont hurt to know eh 👍😃 then thats it everything else has been done by me.
The odd size bolts are standard on my bike its an 08. Yours is probably newer so maybe theyre now using normal sizes. Not sure to b honest. So far strip down going ok except last frame bolt 😡😡😡 sods law i guess. And its an alan head i hate them they strip far too easy. Ill have to put some heat on it. Ill have a curry n breathe on it :mfr_lol:
:mfr_lol:
I honestly don't know if the bolt sizes have changed, studying relevant model year parts listings may answer the question.
The really good thing is that once you have properly sorted your bike it will then be in excellent order.
Good luck with the repairs and please keep us posted
