Trying to decide where to go next year, anyone toured around the Denmark area? Going Hull to Rotterdam this time whatever, 1.5 hours away rather than the tortuous journey to the southern ports.
Denmark has some excellent riding but it's not very hilly so overall lacks twisties.
I like it as off the main roads is mostly empty of traffic.
Being flat-ish it is windy a lot of the time.
Great food, awesome people, decent beer if you stay away from the lagers.
Rode through Denmark on the way to and from Nordkapp.
As Boomer says, it's flat. Very flat. (But then so is Holland and the very west part of Germany.)
There are impressive bridges between the mainland and the big islands. And Sweden is only a short jaunt across the bridge.
If I was to go again I'd make sure to spend some time in Malmo which has is really the only place to get good pictures of the bridge from.
Enjoy!
Cheers
Paul B.
Never been but some friends have just got back from Denmark Sweden and Norway and said it was lovely ... I have seen the videos and photos and I concur ... BUT fooking expensive ... £11 a pint !
Yep, used to go to Norway annually, alcohol was very expensive. Might have a rethink, Croatia is an option.
Agree with you on the Hull-Zeebrugge ferry versus slog down to Dover ... Hull every time, esp if there's time to avoid M62 and go via Buxton etc.
I spent a year working on a farm in Norway, long long time ago .. had my GS750 with me and working 10 days on, 4 days off meant there was time to explore. The scenery is stunning, the roads are great, the people are wonderful and the booze cost a fortune!! The lads that I played amateur football with had a still which produced rocket fuel, which seemed the only sensible option.
Two years ago we went down to the Black Forest via Arnhem and then the Eder Dam (Dambusters fame .. one of our group had been a para, and another in the airforce ... hence the culture!) .. we then came back up the Rhine valley. Providing we kept away from the cities and the motorways it was great.
We are planning next year's trip .. which is always half the fun .. the only trouble with Norway is that they've stopped the ferry from Newcastle .. catching the ferry to Santander and then Northern Spain is looking favourite at the moment. If time isn't a problem then trip down over the Alps to Croatia looks fantastic!
Just back from Northern Spain, second time over there, loved it, the Picos De Europa is a definite, head for Potes, nice place for coffee/lunch stop then into the mountains
Looking at Croatia for next year as well, will probably go Europoort down through Germany / Austria / Slovenia into Croatia.
Wife will probably fly to Munich and I'll pick her up, (Work/time constraints for her).
Toured down from Europoort via Heidelburg a few years ago through the Black forest to Lake Konstanz then back up the "Romantic" road past all the castles etc. Great trip.
Para's...they can't help it :whistling:
hang on you lot.........all this talk of Picos, Norway, Croatia, etc is making me very envious.......tomorrow I'll be meeting the guys headed by Big Al and we'll be heading off towards the Lake District
Report to follow

Ah, the Lakes, enjoy the rain 😊
I'll report back....forecast aint bad actually
With the state of pound due to Brexit the lakes is a much more likely destination than Scandanavia and a very nice one too.
Used to live there when younger, and worked there for a few years up until 2 years ago. Nice to visit.
As promised here's a brief report on yesterdays ride out to the stunning Lake District, in total there was 11 bikes including Big Alan, myself 100 miles away who was leading the gang and others on varying machinery
We had an absolutely stunning ride and the weather was equally beautiful, not a drop of rain in sight.
Here's the amazing view from the secret View of Derwent water

we enjoyed lunch at the quant small local cafe
I had to leave the rest to return home and they went on their way, according to them they had a blast.
I had a different type of blast getting a puncture that I was unable to repair whilst travelling over Bowers Moor on the A66 on my way home...I had to wait over 3 hours to be recovered by Kawasaki RAC assist so I wasn't very pleased, however I finally got home much later

As they say all's well that ends well and I have just ordered a replacement puncture repair kit .......just in case :mfr_lol:
Looks great. Sorry to hear about the puncture. Please tell me it was not a Michelin!
Great pics......apart from those of the tyre and recovery!
We really have some stunning countryside in this fair land.
Favorite time of year when the season tuns and the autumnal colours come!
Must get back to the old hunting ground, on the Monmouth / Chepstow road for a blast, always stunning this time of year!

It is indeed a PR4 GT
I really don't know what to think about this scenario :surrender:
The last puncture I had was with a PR3 there has been much said about PR3s in connection with their susceptibility to punctures
So, having fitted PR4s to my bike 2000 + miles ago I'm disappointed to suffer this latest puncture.
I know there are other members who also have PR4s fitted and have covered many thousands of miles without any problems/punctures.
I simply don't accept that PR4s are puncture prone, it's surely just the luck of the draw, my latest puncture happening whilst on a major A road, surely that could have happened on any road to any other tyre.
My rear tyre will be plugged professionally and I'll continue to use it.
Does any body have other views ?
O.C. and I spoke about this earlier this morning when he wished us a good ride home from the amazing weekend we had, I have had three sets of PR4 tyres and the last two sets were the GT version and touch wood no punctures at all, I need more tyres now and will again get the same, I rate them as a tyre to ride with and have had no bad experiences with them.
The only puncture I have had on the GTR was with a Bridgestone yolks ago, didn't like the tyre anyway.
I'm knackred and need a Grampy nap now after going Leyburn, Pately Bridge, Matlock then Oxford.
As you probably know I won't touch Michelin because I got through 3 rear tyres in about 800 miles. Obviously any tyre can puncturebut that is the most I have ever had in rapid succession. They happened on A roads too. I was so annoyed I rung Michelin who were sympathetic and talked about new one coming out(pr4). They are grippy tyres but I think they grip anything and that leads to punctures. Since my Michelin experiences have used Angel Gts and no punctures to date. When o e tyres wear out will prob go back to them but not Michelin. I cannot afford it.

Good points Pete and I couldn't/wouldn't argue the facts,
So I'll drop the wheel out and get the tyre plugged and we'll see what happens ....hey ho

I sincerely hope that your experiences with these tyres will be better than mine.
Me too
Had Angel GT's on my Blackbird, and now have them on my GTR, never had any problems with them, a good tyre IMHO.
But you ride over a sharp metal object stuck in the right position and it get's picked up by your tyre, I think you'll get a puncture regardless of make.

I also think that it's just bad luck I'm running avon storm2 first set 1 puncture second set none .
Snowy,
I agree with your comments about beautiful locations in this country (and I think for some of us holidays in this country may be de rigeur for a while when we leave the EU, but that's another story ) I visited Applecross and Loch Torridon in the late 90's and can still remember it beauty and awesome nature.
PRD, I think you'll find that's a PR4
Looking at where the puncture was on the tyre , if you had had one of them tyre repair kits ,then I'm pretty sure you could have fixed it and been on your way in 20mins , I think that I will be getting one off eBay , :biker3:

Unfortunately there's now a speed limit from Tintern to Chepstow. You may be better off on the B road from Monmouth to Chepstow via Trellech.

I did have a puncture repair kit which was new and unused, BUT it had been in my top box for over 3 years -it didnt work and I ran out of inflation canisters
I have replaced the whole kit and am now carrying my small compressor
Lesson learned
I'm concious that this thread has been hijacked
