Title: Crash helmets
Post by: Macskwak on September 15, 2016, 06:43:05 PM
before i go out and actually buy it as its long over due i must admit i was wondering if anyone has heard good or bad about the viper 151 bluetooth lid. Mines about six years old so prob about time me thinks. I want a lid that links up to others but dont want to make schuberth any more wealthy than they are already. Saw it on web n quite like its look. Any heads up at all? 🤔🤔

Have never heard of that lid, so had to google it.

It seems like a lower priced lid with plenty features. But Its all about how the lid fits your bonce.

For me I stick with what I know and that is Shoei Neotec.

Let us know what you decide

How much do you value your head and it's insides?

Then go get a helmet which both fits and does the correct job and if it has any other useful benefits then that's a bonus.

I have both a Schuberth C3 and a Caberg Duke. One which cost considerably more than the other. I really dont get on with the Schuberth at all but its mainly about which one suits your head shape the best. The Caberg fits me just right, is well made and has a 5star Sharp rating. It cost about a third of the price of the Schuberth. I would advise against buying on line unless you have had a chance to try something on first.
Having recently been involved in a major accident the Caberg is about to be replaced by another one.
I have no info about the Viper

Jim im surprised id have thought hjc as there top usa sellers. I wanted a lid that came with intercom built in and the viper kept coming up on web. I guess they have to meet safety standards and my present lid was couple hundred quid six years ago. I dont know maybe hjc might b ok but i want flip lid and viper is. Il visit infinity n see what they have. 👍 Cheers guys

I have a no-longer-used Viper 131. Like you, I wanted a flip-face lid with inbuilt Bluetooth.

It's a very noisy lid. Ear-plugs are a must.

Whilst riding a tad... let's just say "rapidly", for legal reasons... I turned my head and a plastic side panel on the helmet got ripped clean off in the air-blast. (If you Google images for Viper 131, you'll see the piece I mean.) The place I bought it from replaced it, which which was good of them, but I lost confidence in a helmet that starts to fall apart in a high-speed airflow

Long story short, I now have a Caberg Duke, and Caberg Just Speak Bluetooth kit. Very comfortable lid, and very good Bluetooth kit. I'd still recommend ear-plugs if you're in the saddle for any length of time, but I guess you could say the same of all lids.

Cheers

I actually borrowed two schuberth lids from a pal with the intercom systems too. I took my lady with her schuberth on the bike for her first time and ive gotta say the lids were so quiet and intercoms were great. Down side is best part of 1700 for the pair. 😯😯 out of my budget im sad to say. But ye every time if i could. 👍👍 ill keep looking around n see what comes up. 🏍🏍🏍

My 5 year old Evoline2 has been excellent for me.
I love the ability to convert to open face and will be replacing with an Evo One or an Evoline3.

Hi, I've always used nolans helmets, I heard about the viper thought wow built in Bluetooth all for £150 , WHAT a waste of money , I got the flip front version , you have to squeeze helmet together to close it , Bluetooth won't connect to another brand helmet , sound quality poor but worst of all is the wind noise is horrendous better of with a beanie hat.
           DONT BOTHER!!!!!!!!!!

Nice lid, and a bargain!

Just 2 problems: it's not flip-face and there doesn't seem to be any Bluetooth for it

Cheers

well you can't win 'em all  :mfr_lol:

Flip fronts do tend to be a bit more pricey

I know that they're a tad pricey, but after trying on a C3 basic at DemonTweeks, I was won over.
Still feel Shoei are the best made and fitting for my head, love my GT AIR for day to day, but after having a Givi X08 flipper for a few years, trying the Schuberth C3 was amazing, so light, good fit and ventilation, Cardo headset fits a treat, and Tweeks 24 months on the knock, interest free suits me to a tee.
Agree fully with all previous, try as much as you can for fit and comfort, yes you do get what you pay for, and as far as built in Bluetooth, sorry, it's a helmet first, buy it for comfort, fit and safety.

Ye ok lid oc but im thinking im gonna go for a mid range lid maybe hjc or similar and put in an intercom after. Ill go to infinity n try a few out. As you say the fit is most important it is a lid first 👍👍 :punk:
