Title: Well I've picked it up
Post by: Busa1400 on September 10, 2016, 11:35:41 AM
First impressions are that I am really glad that I made the switch.

The ZZR is a phenomenal bike but having owned Hayabusa's (1400 nitros)  and ZZRs for the last 10 years or so, the riding position was becoming increasingly uncomfortable, the mirrors show a great view of your elbow, licence was getting bogged down in points - none it the bikes fault, I control my right wrist, but the ZZR inspires and awakes the latent Rossi in me. ZZR performance sports are not at there 'happyist' or 'comfortablist' at 30mph on bumpy roads. 110 with the wind over the screen taking the weight of your elbows, absolutely, and the grin factor is huge but that doesn't happen often or for long

The GTR is a totally different fish and I was a little nervous about the change. However, the riding position makes me want to head upto Scotland and have a look around, the mirrors actually see behind me, and the screen, having been blasted to death each time i went out it was a god send. Dealing with the power, there is a huge difference between the 1440 ZZR PS and the GTR1400 - but my impression is that the GTR has far more usable the power,  cruising at 'motorway' speeds is not going to stress the bike and low speed is a more relaxed affair.

Just a couple of things that I wouldnt mind help with

1. The whole KIPASS system. Does it in reality mean that I have to take the 'keyfob' and the backup key with me everywhere incase the fob decides not to operate??

2. The exhaust is not the prettiest of things and I am thinking of changing that - any recommendations ?

On the whole love it, and Im just about to go and get a new bike jacket, because at the moment I look like a fat power ranger on a touring bike

Glad you like it. It'll grow on you, I promise you. It's not the speed monster you're used to (good for your licence) but when you use it "in anger" you'll find it handles unbelievably well for a bike of that size.

As for the KIPASS, yes you need the keyfob with you, obviously. As for the backup key... What do you do with your spare car key?

Exhausts; they're a matter of personal taste, and how deep your pockets are. Some people even like the original spud-launcher exhaust! I have a Remus Okami on mine; not too obnoxious sounding, not too heavy, and looks good imho.

Cheers

Glad you are enjoying the swop  :punk:.

With the  kipass I don't carry the spare I don't car spare car keys why should I.
That's what the brakedown and recovery is for.
You do need the fob to be in range to start the bike and if you forget to take with you after starting you are in the  :shit:  :censored:
If it goes flat while out you can remove the key in the fob and place the hole in the fob on the lug just below the kipass dial to start the bike .
I think Debs has posted a link on here to a manual which will explain better hope this helps  :agree:

Also on my 2009 I had 2 fobs with the keys in not like the later bikes 1 fob and 1 emergency fob/ card

100%  :agree:   I do carry the spare key in my wallet, as it is only small,

As for exhausts there are all sorts you can go for and if you try the 'search' button it should bring up plent threads discussing the why's and wherefores of each system. Personally I like Akrapovic and have had them on a number of different bike sover a lot of years, my new GTR is no exception (sorry its dirty in the first pictutre )  :mfr_lol:

Just to prove the point. I like the original exhaust. And there are some cases of other exhausts altering the fuelling and there fore the performance and sound. Beowulf are popular I believe.

I always found the twin stainless steel standard exhausts more than enough as the power from all six cylinders roared through them.....

Alas no more...
