Title: Back from France
Post by: Mikey on September 06, 2016, 01:43:44 PM
Well I've finally had my first long trip on the GTR. Really pleased with it, smooth, good handling, economical and really, really quick. I was amazed that over the whole trip it averaged about 53mpg which is remarkable for the type of bike.
The only downside is there's a lot of wind noise. I've fitted a laminar lip and can ride with my visor up at silly speeds. I'm don't know if the noise is coming around the screen or not. If I duck down and tuck my head behind the screen the noise disappears. Anybody else have this problem or better had the problem and cured it?

I still can't get the bloody key out!,

I have the laminar lip and also can ride with my visor up, at 6' 3" I find it ok noise wise but I do wear ear plugs all the time, do you?

As for touring it's an awesome bike, no idea why you can't get the key out, actually I never take mine out at all, well to be honest it's been out three times in five years. Tried dribbling a little WD40 down the side of the key to see if it will release?

I fitted a non lockable petrol cap ,so never have to take the key out ,it felt that one day it would snap off in the lock and then I would be well stuck,  :biker3:

I'm 6' 4" and yes I wear earplugs all the time. I'm quite puzzled about it.

So may variables, helmet dynamics, position of bars / risers, even your posture, I found it a real trial and error scenario!
Selling the Calsci sail if you want to try it on and see if it works, not too far away.    :boat:

At 6'2" I find a similar scenario where if the screen is fully raised ( it has a laminar lip) I can slightly duck down and its a very quiet environment, with the screen at the half way point there is some noise, and with the screen fully lowered there is more noise, I do expect noise because I'm riding a bike, but I also appreciate that too much noise is not only potentially damaging to hearing, but does have the effect of making the rider tired.

I wear a Shoei Neotech which I find to be very good at helping to reduce  wind noise

Is that the one in the for sale forum?

I have the laminar lip fitted and find it works for me. I do not use ear plugs ( deaf already)....maybe thats why I do not hear wind noise  :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

In respect of the key, I never take mine out. I had a spare key cut for using on the panniers and fuel cap, just keep it in my pocket so refuelling and pannier removal no problem

Thanks for the offer, I'm not sure about it. It's really big.

Has anybody used the MRA vario screen? I had one on my GS and it was really good.
