I can't believe what happened this morning, in fact only a few minutes ago.....I was so concerned I had to write it down as a warning to others.. :sweatdrop:
I just found myself looking at Kawasaki GTR's on eBay. :hammer:
Now that's what you call a very close call.
Common sense prevails!
It's the right time to purchase a proper bike, deals to be had, don't resist the temptation.
you know you want to Steve......better the devil you know and all that
It would suit you perfectly. It would be like coming home. And no stupid remarks from the likes of PRD!
PRD, You never know. The one major drawback with the GTR is the build quality, the amount of warranty work that I and many others experienced is inexcusable for a flagship £13k tourer.
Blimey Steve, I would have thought Kawasaki build quality was somewhat better than BMW for example
The GTR hasn't had many recalls for faulty workmanship

what sort of warranty claims have you had to put in?
New exhaust as the black paint started flaking off, new shock adjuster due to it seizing, replacement pannier lid as the hinge snapped, replacement glove box due it cracking, new rear brake calliper hanger, and I believe there was something else but my mind is a blank.
BMW returns.....computer says "NO"
Apart from that if was fine! Spread across 2 bikes or just one?

No recalls on the BMW then ?.....

None of my paint has flaked, shock adjuster has never froze, my lids work fine, I've got the original glove box on the tank and have had no issues, rear brake caliper still hanging in there..
One thing I do agree on is that my mind goes blank more than a few times, especially at car washes.

That was all on the 2011 one, the 07 plate I had was solid, never a glitch.

The only recall my K16 went back for was a software upgrade which was done free of charge, took a matter of minutes to do and as with all BMW dealerships while you wait you can enjoy their free wifi and drink their free cans of pop or hot drinks all whilst reclining in full leather suites and in my case often laughing at many of their customers who are virtually clones of each other as they are dressed from head to toe in identical BMW branded clothing :mfr_lol:

Talking software updates..............
Anyone out there own a VW / Audi / Seat / Skoda diesel that was branded as "Dirty" and awaiting update?
Still waiting for mine to be done, as long as it doesn't affect fuel economy I'll be happy, but just no update!

I can see why you are a "satisfied" K1600 owner, and really pleased to hear that you have not succumbed to the BMW Clone syndrome, I see enough of them on the road without going to the dealerships .....
BMW dealerships may be more comfortable but they can afford to be with what they charge. May be I have been lucky but only warranty claim I had was on 2011 bike for new tyre pressure sensor batteries. Early days with my 2015 one but hope it will be good.
BMW have also quite recently introduced an across the board 2 years Warranty on all their used bikes.....that's a brilliant sales strategy especially with a £20k bike where part failures will cost you a second mortgage.
My first 2009 GTR was from a BMW Dealership in Wolverhampton .
I went in to look and test ride an RT 1200 and the salesmen told me with the RTs engine you will either love it or hate it !!.
And while I umd and ard I test rode the GTR  the rest is history that ones gone now and I have the 64 plate one .

Yep, we are waiting for an update for our Audi Q3.....I've been checking the rear view mirror since the 'dirty' outbreak and haven't seen any one lying in the gutter choking from our exhaust fumes  :mfr_lol:

they need to to that with their reliability issues and they are too expensive for what they are. I believe that a Jap bike is every bit as good and usually better than a BM. Base that on my personal experience. However I quite like the k 16 but would not dare own one. Glad your one was ok though. But they really seem to depreciate a lot.
:agree: They certainly do depreciate a lot!
Alan Jefries BMW are expanding their superb dealership

They've had a rebuild recently but aren't currently increasing their stock of used bikes, hence I had to sell mine elsewhere.
What made you get rid of the K16 and what do you fancy next?

I was bored with it. I might try a GS1200 next, I ain't rushing into anything though. There won't be another bike till next year.
Why were you bored of it Steve? Was it the ride / handling or just the fact that you scratched the itch and you fancy something different?

How about a nice moto guzzi stelvio.
I wanted to see what all the hype was about re the K16, it's a superb machine don't get me wrong but it's so well equipped and the handling is so refined you might as well be driving a car.
It's a very easy bike to ride despite reports in the early days of riders frequently dropping them after being caught out by its weight.

"Might as well be driving a car" says it all for me.
The GTR is a motorcycle. It rewards your input and you feel part of the process.
Plenty of other good bikes out there.
At least you have a choice, me I have to buy whatever fits me.

:agree:
Agree with both the above, think I described it previously as "Clinical"when I test rode, good bit of engineering, but I found it soulless to ride.
GS1200, always been a fave, yet to ride an LC, I daren't in case temptation kicks in again!
GTR for serious and scratching, F700GS for commuting and everyday riding is working well, consider meself fortunate! :biker3:
As said before, good fun hunting the next steed!
Moto guzzi stelvio!

If I buy three of them, maybe you, Charlie and I can start a bike gang. :mfr_lol:
I prefer the ETZ251 myself. :mfr_lol:
Ts250 was the best.
Me brother had the 250 Trophy, links up front and radical styling, I'd have one back in the garage!
Yes they wer good?
" were" :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

definitely :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Snowy .... "GTR for serious scratching" !!! ... you need to test ride a Gs mate   ... I honestly believe that the biking public who perhaps are afraid to try them out or simply don't like the look of them or are of the dislike BMW brigade have no idea how 1. Quick they are and 2. How forgiving they are. I loved my GTR but simply fancied a change .. you can't get much more different than those two bikes   but having said that I would like to try the K16 for a day and see what its all about

Appreciate fully where you're coming from
Had a 2004 1200GS, loved it, got us back into touring, but got tempted by a Super Tenere so the GS went!
Tenere wasn't the all rounder that I thought it would be, especially with the pillion, Jen just couldn't get on with it! :undecided:
So along came the GTR! Have the 700GS as me commuter, want to try a GS1200LC, but with my track record it'll be too tempting. :whistling:
The K16, test rode before the GTR, awesome tool, but too "clinical", too "fly by wire", - have more fun in my TDi Audi!
New Tiger 1050 will be the next to test, and have to try a Rocket 3 just for the experience of a 2.0l + motorcycle......and the torque!
