Packing for a 10 day tour with my better half. First one on the GTR, just wondering about the weight factor, I've got a "Phils Farkels" toprack fitted and a Givi 52 Maxia. I've loaded my previous bike (Pan ST 1300) pretty full, just wondering about the GTR? Most kit packed in the side panniers lowdown.
It's a big strong bike so should carry any extra weight ,but it's best not to overload the rear ,I always like to have as much room left in the top box as I can , to have a top box full to the top is never a good idea ,
Well the handbook states a maximum of 10kg in each side case, 10kg on the rear rack, and a maximum payload including rider and pillion of 228kg.
10kg is the maximum for a carry on case for an airliner, which I think you would struggle to cram into the side cases.
don't worry to much about the weight. It will handle it.Just keep the heavy stuff low down or it will become top heavy.Dont forget to wind your spring in. Have a good trip
How heavy are 10 pairs of boxers and a couple of tshirts. We did 5 days away earlier this year...loads of room. As Wildy says, heavy stuff at the bottom. Top box for 1st aid kit, tyre weld, pump, waterproofs & brew kit. Job done

as others have said, don't overload, and keep weight low in the panniers, use the top box sparingly, adjust your suspension a little to accomodate the extra weight.
For some years now I have worn walking type 'base layers' instead of T-shirts, they are light weight, warm, pack easily and can be washed and dried overnight
regarding "base layers" ... you can't beat a cheap pair of cycling shorts for comfort on long trips ... they might not look cool, and you'll be walking like John Wayne with a slipped disc whenever you stop for a brew ... but they add at least 50% to the distance that you can travel before numbness sets in!
I'm assuming you wear your biking trousers over the top of said shorts :mfr_lol:
You are correct O.C. ... and as a bonus, if you remember to turn them inside out every 3 days, you'll never need to wash them!!
:mfr_lol: good planning that

I'd need a catheter fitted as well for that long in the saddle :scooter:
There are enough drain/vent hoses near the bottom of the bike, one more would not be noticed.
Think we've cracked it, a mixture of compromise and scales, under 10Kg in each pannier, spring wound in, bike washed and checked, overnight x2 ferry kit ready, just need better weather than today 😨 for the run to Portsmouth tomorrow, weather looking good on the Spanish side though.
Ready to roll 😊
Hope you have a great trip ... hoping to do Spain next year, so will look forward to hearing how you get on ... have fun

Willdo, heading through the Picos to first stop in Leon. Did the Picos 3 years ago, beautiful scenery, great roads for bikes.
