Reading about Mikey's problem, just wondering when or how often do you change your bikes battery?
Mine is a 2011 and as far as I know from owning it, still on it's original battery.
Well i guess at £70 a go for a decent battery its a case of waiting till you have signs of battery probs before you shell out for one but if you have some spare cash then maybe every three years would be keeping you safe of any probs. But to be honest i think you should just run it till you get a slow turn over one day. Youll know when the time comes. 👍👍
:agree:
First fail without reason or sign of doubt, it gets changed!
Mine has date stamp of 2008 on it, original and still going!
Don't believe in trickle chargers, just use it till it fails then best you can afford / longest guarantee!
Old addage.......if it ain't broke................................
Now mine is on a trickle charger every time it goes in the shed so now surprises when I start. sometimes can be a week or more due to work before it moves :censored:
Mine lasted 4 years before I changed as precaution before going abroad
Spain next sunday, got me thinking now
Mine is the original battery in my 2008 but I think I'll replace it next year as I don't think that it can last much longer.
Bought the bike in Aug 2007.
70649 miles and original battery still going strong.
Lives on an Accumate when not being ridden.
When I had my GTR (2012 model) the battery failed at two years old almost to the day with no warning at all. The dealer did not seem surprised at this, when I went to collect the new battery.
My car battery failed in similar circumstances at four years old - 270 mile trip and all fine one day, non - start the next!
Now I change them all at the first sign of trouble.

Intersting 😊
Lead gell cell battery's need a service charge pretty much constantly .. if left they will discharge ..why ? Ah dunno but am sure someone will be along to say 😊
It takes aprox 20 mins of alternator running at optimum output to replace the charge taken out from a start .
If ya using ya bike every day then yep no trickle needed.
But Gtrs and other run HISS KISS YISS etc etc and it's a constant drain on batts.
Anyhooo just sayin like 😊😊😆😆
ps
Batt life is normally 3 to 5 yrs unless ya unlucky
My last lead/acid battery lasted nine years on a bike. Modern ones don't last that long in my opinion.
The worst thing I had for running the battery down was the alarm system fitted .
It use to take that much out I always needed it on the trickle charge
Best replacement battery?
Longest guarantee. Highest amp/hour rating.
Don't buy cheap, pay for what you get! I almost always end up at MANBAT, local to me in Shrewsbury and always seem to be a good price.

All batteries have internal resistance, consider it a "little leak" between the plates so all will loose some, that's why you pay for what you get.........engineering ain't cheap! When the battery gets old / tired / decayed, this resistance increases so shortens charge life.
My first OEM battery was replaced at 5 years. Never let me down. No issues, but I was going on a trip across country and wanted to make sure that I had a new battery on board. I've heard of others going longer and others much less. I've been using the MotoBatt MBTX12U. (on my second one) as I replaced it at 3 years...just because.
I accidently let my OEM battery go completely flat after 15 months. it re-charged OK but was never good to hold a decent charge after that. Replaced with a Motobatt and I was amazed at the cold cranking power compared to the original
You've got me all worried now, just been out and put mine on my Optimate , Spain on Sunday :cheesy:
Fankoo for that Mr Snowy ..wook is now even more enlightened than he was yesterday 😊😊😊😊😊

Been there got the Tshirt.
I left my bike connected to the optimate charger it kept checking and testing the battery doing its correct job. The problem was I had forgotten and turned the power of to the shed :censored:.
Came out to a flat bike and as Burchy stated was never as reliable so a new battery fitted.
