Urgent because I'm off to France on Thursday.
Got the beast out to move the prat nav. Ignition on, low battery warning. This shouldn't happen because I'm on the bike at least once a week. Connected my little battery pack and nothing, no attempt nothing. Battery out and boost charge for 45mins. nothing no noise nothing. I thought new battery needed.
Pushed the thing back into the garage, slight rise and a tiny step. God it's bloody heavy. Locked it up and thought one more go. It took about 10 attempts before the steering unlocked and the ignition turned on. The the bloody thing started showing 14v on the screen. Don't get me wrong I'm pleased as punch it's going but how can I trust it?
Ok any ideas?
First thing is to check that your battery terminals are correctly tightened, they do have a habit of loosening

Done, cleaned as well
Next step check all the fuses to ensure they are all seated correctly
Are the batteries in your fob good ?

Have to find the fuse box but will try that tomorrow

Think so, I tried the spare key type thing with the same result.
For me the problem is the battery ! Put new battery and everythings will work well again ! Don't care if you are on bike almost everyday.....
Another problem can be the 10 attempts before steering unlocked and ignition turn on....look here !
(but before touch your bike try to put new battery !!!)

That's an informative vid but that has all the fairing removed and the rubber boot you wouldn't do all that if your out on a trip :censored:
How old is the battery if it's 5 years or more then it due for a change ,most problems you hear where it concerns the battery are fixed when a New one is put in ,

When you say low batt warning are you meaning bike or kipass , have you tried using the passive rfid chip aginst the lock if this starts the bike change the fob batteries . If the meter is showing 12.6 ish volts on the bike battery it should start rising to 14.2/14.6 v at about 3000 rpm your charging system is good , you could try a leak down on the battery but at the end of the day for peace of mind change the bike battery motobatt are about £40 , fob battery £1.
Hope this may help
Havea good trip
Piggy malone
Thanks guys. First thing to do is to try and source a battery today.

Of course you can't do that while you are out on a trip, but Mikey wrote: "10 attempts before steeering unlocked and ignition turn on " and this video show what could be the problem
and I said "" (

but, I wrote also
"" that one is

Mikey there is also another option which is common on th ignition locks If you look down at the lock and at about 9oclock you will see on the side of the casing there is a squarish lump that sticks out. Inside of this is a sprung loaded square peg that operates the switch inside the ignition. It gets dry and siezes sometimes. Get some wd40 and point the straw at 9 oclockish under the centre trim piece of the lock. Take thr key out first to get better access. Spray where the finger is pointing. This should solve your problem.

Thanks for that, unfortunately I have keyless ignition 😕
I've changed the Fob battery and I have a new bike battery. The only one I could get before my trip was a genuine Kawasaki one from a dealers. I've put the acid in and at the moment I'm giving it a top up charge for a couple of hours.
Next instalment soon.
Mikey the picture posted by Macskwak is with the key fob removed underneath is a key that starts the bike and opens the panniers and fuel cap turn it to the right and pull to remove.
Only mentioned in case you are unsure :punk:

Confused now, I have a big plastic switch thingy not a key slot. The key for the tank and panniers is attached to the Fob.
The picture looks like a standard ignition key set up, unless I'm missing something ( quite possible )
Turn your big plastic switch thingy all the way round to the "FSS" symbol. The big plastic switch thingy will now just pull out, like an ordinary key. You can use it to unlock the panniers, tank or seat
FSS stands for Fuel, Seat and Saddlebags

Well I didn't know that 😱 Thanks very much, I'll give it a go tomorrow

Mikey do you have an owners manual ? If so I would have a look at the part about kipass and how to use the chip in the big fob it may help if you need to get going if your fob electronics playup . All gtr 1400 s are keyless but as said you can remove the stove knob to reveal a standard ignition barrel and key .
And also remember you need to have your fob near to remove the stove key it's just the same as for starting the bike the fob needs to be in range :punk:

Mikey push your black knob down as usual and then turn it as far right as you can past the on point and then pull up and the knob will pull out to show the picture i sent you. Looking like a normal ignition. Then do as i said before. Its a common fault with these bikes.
If you are getting the low battery warning it's either the big battery or the one in the FOB. A low battery in the FOB can cause grief with starting. It shouldn't but it did with me. Acted like it was the big battery but it was the FOB battery.
So mikey did you give ignition a squirt of wd40. Did it help out all. 🤔🤔

Might be in France by now, hopefully not in a hire car :whistling:
:mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: you could be right. It is a common problem though. Easy fix with wd40 or light spray oil

Try as I might I couldn't get the key out. Followed the instructions faithfully but nothing. Early morning ferry tomorrow so it's fingers crossed.
Its possible you may have a slightly bent key stopping it from coming out. Keep trying though while your away and if you get lucky n get it free squirt oil where pic shows. Enjoy your trip and be safe mikey. Dont forget some pics eh?
If it won't come out easily it's bent. Kwackers made that key out of Belgian Chocolate. That big top hat on it makes it very easy to bend.
