Hi guys a bit of advice needed,
Me and the missus are traveling round Germany in two weeks, however to get to our first destination we need to do most of the traveling through France. Doing some research on the French laws there's a requirement for helmets to have reflective stickers on them. Is this true because fitting stickers on the front of my Caberg duke will be hard due to air vents. Also the requirement for a hi viz vest is it to be worn at all times or incase of an emergency, I'm thinking of bypassing France and travel through Belgium instead, it's a shame it adds nearly 100 miles on to the trip.
Anybody's feedback will be appreciated
The hi viz vest is more about cars than bikes and when broken down search on here someone posted euro laws regarding bikes unsure about helmet new to me
I havent heard of the reflective sticker requirements before but would have thought it means that stickers would be on the rear of a helmet,
With regard to the hi-vis vests I think you'll find they are required to be carried and used in the event of an emergency only, possibly applicable to cars only.
Either way I don't think that a diversion to avoid France is necessary
Enjoy your trip, and don't forget to report back
most of the stories regarding what you need to drive through france are either myth, failed laws or aimed at car drivers .
breath kits never became law , reflective jackets never got enforced , warning triangles are for cars.
The hi viz vest is a defo for breakdowns tho.
do your own research and watch out for the websites selling this stuff saying its all legal.
I got this quote from the AA site , however if in doubt and its small and cheap and you are concerned just take it anyway
"January 2013 - the French government announced that the law that made reflective equipment compulsory for motorcycle riders and passengers in France from 1 January has been abolished.
[The requirement was to have been that clothing must have a minimum reflective surface of 150cm2 (approx 23in2) in total, either in one piece or in several pieces, and must be worn between the neck and waist.]"
The sticker law was bought in a few years ago but I've never heard of it being enforced. I bought some from flea bay but only carry them with me, not actually on helmet. Have also been stopped in roadside check and not queried.
Hi vis must be carried but only worn incase of breakdown etc.
I will also be travelling through France on route to the Harz mountains in a couple of weeks.
I just took some spare bulbs and a copy of my insurance, a small first aid kit and proof of ownership etc. Kept within the speed limit most of the time as I didn't fancy being pulled over in a foreign country.... plus I wanted to admire the view. Watch out for the funny speed cameras at the side of the road that look like a bin.

Thanks for your reapones guys, just getting a bit pariniod apprentely this law was set in Jan 2016, some site say it but some don't
I'm sure I read that the "sticker law" only applies to helmets sold in France.
My recently purchased Caberg Duke came with stickers, and instructions in French about where they should be applied.

About a month and a half ago, at the beginning of July, I traveled for a week in France, visiting the Verdon Gorges, the Luberon region and the Mont Ventoux.
My wife and I, we don't wear high visibility clothing.
We haven't put any reflective sticker on our helmets.
Never any problem with the police cars that we met.
But we had two high-visibility jackets in our bags (in case of emergency is mandatory to wear them) and a first aid kit approved DIN 3617, type this(for example)

Enjoy your trip !
Biking every month in France, eg today ca 300 kms too, never saw or heard bout that law on reflective stickers on helmets...
From http://www.worldmotorcycletours.co.uk/travel-information/french-advise
"However, it is the [EU] Commission's understanding that the obligation contained in the French legislation cannot apply retroactively to helmets already in use. As a consequence, foreign motorcycle riders carrying a helmet not containing these reflective markings cannot be obliged to bring their helmets in conformity retroactively. Only new helmet types placed on the French market must comply with the new requirements and bear this reflective material."
In reality, I don't think anyone has anything to worry about.

Yes I noticed it's affected your spelling :mfr_lol:
I take it you meant 1- responses 2-paranoid 3- apparently
We took 2 x hi viz vests packed flat in the top box in case of a breakdown (never on a new kawasaki :biker3:) on our June trip to Brittany, the sticker thing never became law but as I wear a Shoei Neotech which has a black/hi viz colour scheme then I'm ahead of the game
I work on self preservation instead of the supposed laws!
Driving on 'tother side of the road, and yes, we all can, or have made mistakes............ I want to be seen!
Recent purchase of Halvarssons jackets have reflective / day-glo zip on tabards, bostin idea!
Before that me an SWMBO always had Sam Browns on - still think they look good....nay professional!.

with extra Hi-Vis packed in, bungees on anywhere or in top box, if I get a puncture on the side of an "N" road (GTR's don't break down! ) I want to be seen!
That and a few lamps / fuses in case and I'm away............... :biker3:
Whatever.......drive safe and enjoy!
The reflective helmet stickers is hit and miss ,its supposed to be law as if you buy a shark helmet which is french made you get the stickers with it as its law .i have never been stopped when in france but hvent ridden there in 2 years so dont take my word for it.
