A couple of sundays ago I was heading to Thorn to meet up early in the morning, I was getting onto the old A1 southbound (now the A162) at Knottingley and lost the back end on a trail of diesel (got the photos, I'll try and put some on) and the GTR and I slid across both lanes, its amazing how far you can slide at 10/15 mph!
The damage was pretty extensive, even to the point of wrecking the screen mechanism!
A call to the carole nash recovery number and I was being picked up in lass than 45 mins and on my way home.
Carole nash wanted my bike to go to 'Plantec' for assessment/repairs but after reading some real horror stories about them I called back and said I'd like it to go to Kawasaki Autorama. If anyone is asked to use Plantec, do some research first.
My bike went in on Monday and an assessor from axa checked it yesterday and approved the repairs, just got to wait for the parts and repairs being completed now.
My Hein Gericke boots and jacket did a brilliant job too, my foot got stuck under the bike but other than a sore twisted ancle I am all good.
WHY people ride in shorts and t shirts is beyond me, I don't need to preach on here but anyone else reading this, JUST DONT DO IT!
Anyway, hope to be back shiney side up pretty soon. It might take some miles to get my confidence back though.
Really feel for you!
Suffered twitches on oily bits but never like that!
Positives .....you'll mend and confidence will restore, and insurance hopefully will restore
your steed!
Just hope it's not a shed load hassle and mither for you!
Cheers.
Its actually all going pretty smoothly, so far, its all been sorted between Autorama and CN. Just wish I'd fitted the crash bars now instead of waiting until Christmas, ah well, hindsight and all that!
Any redress to the creater of the oil slick ? Highway dept responsible for that section of road ?
Glad yer OK and the bike will live again:D
I once hit diesel at 50mph and broke most of me.
The bike only had scratches and busted indicators and bars.
The bike slid down the slip road while I bounced of the crash barrier.
Thank God for Richa leathers and a spine protector. (I used to ride MotoX)
Glad you're ok Vixer..
You'll soon get your confidence back..
You are ok and that is all that matters.
Sorry to hear about your accident Vixer, but pleased to hear that you are relatively ok.
Autorama will sort your bike, and yes, I do keep plugging that dealership but they are very good.
Your observations and advice about proper riding gear is spot on
It just shows you that no matter how careful a rider you may be and how nice the weather is, it still happens.
Protective gear is a must at all times!
Hope it is all sorted soon.
Thanks for all your replies, apart from an aching foot and leg, I am fighting fit, well as fit as you can be at 44 lol
Axa called today to say they were instructing autorama to crack on with the repairs.
I think I've got my eye in with doing photos, so there should be a couple below.
Well its on its side, what a surprise, I hate computers
:mfr_lol:
Any criticism of the traction control or lack of it?
Mate metal mends quickly we don't and as the pilots say any landing you can walk away from is a good landing ..pleased ya ok 😊
However as this also happened to a mate of mine .. you can put a claim in thru the M.I.B ..NO not the film .. when there is no 3rd party to claim against the afore mentioned is available ..you can claim back your excess any riding kit damaged and injuries .
It is a long drawn out process but for those that need it it's invaluable 😊
Hope this is of some help to you and others 😊
Off topic but this is a slick I dropped my ZX9R on a few years ago. Doing about 60km I slid across into the gutter and was nearly collected by a Hilux then watched it slide up the road before flipping about 6 times. 3.5 years later It still haunts me when leaning into corners on new bikes. And I hate it! (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160827/05cba57c917348437080bad29186232d.jpg)

Sorry to read this thread Mr Vixer .. but so very glad you are in one piece .. the bike can be repaired but you can't .. well . not as cheaply !
I second that. Great to hear you were covered up.
Blimey, my bike looked like it had a bloody nose compared to your ninja.
It just proves that there are thoughtless morons the world over, I was being polite there :mfr_lol:

Thank you so much for sharing this information - it is so valuable to get this sort of advice when things go pear shaped - I put up a similar post for Boomer but I think he had spare parts already and probably did not want the hassle of dealing with faceless people.
