Ok, I'm up for the chocolate spanner award! :embarrassed:
Wont go into detail, but bike took a spill today, I am so glad that I paid the money for the Kawasaki engine bars!
Basically bike got nudged back whilst on side stand, over she went with that horrible sound of grating plastic!
But, after a mixture of anger and adrenaline rush, got her righted, all damage was impact scuffs to lower edge of coloured mirror trim, slight gravel rash on rear end of original can and small scuff on engine crash bar and R&G bush mounted on rear offside of swing arm.
Think I paid £240 from a dealer in Germany for the engine bars, the insurance paid off! Minimal damage to remind me and make good!
Still feel like a first class :asshole: though! :embarrassed:
 glad the damage was minimal, and the engine bars and bobbins did their job  don't feel so bad about it Snowro, it has happened to most of us at some time or other

:agree: the bars did their job, there are very few motorcyclists out there who haven't experienced a spill at one time or another
These things happen, where did you bury the person who nudged your bike and made it fall over? :whistling:

Thats why I never explained in detail! Home goal I'm afraid!
We have all done things like that! It won't happen to k16's due to their farce I mean force field!

I did something similar on the GTR when I parked up and put the side stand down before getting off only to then see the bike listing to its left and coming to a rest on a dry stone wall due to the soft ground. I was annoyed with myself but thankfully it only damaged a mirror.
Yep done it myself too.... always park the bike in gear now to prevent it rolling forwards

Are your engine bars the genuine Kawasaki items...loke like a heavy metal bar which is mounted to the frame and runs along the side of the fairing then appears to stop (think the part no. is 123CPS0032 ) or are they the tubular type??

Not sure if they're the same part for 2015 model, but well impressed with these, just a small scuff that should lift out with a bit of wet n dry!
If you're looking for these sure it was £240 new I paid from a German dealer, not the £399 Appleyards want, but still cheap compared to a fairing!
I had these on my 2009 bike.
IMHO I think they are more appealing than the tube ones I have now and as you said they did there job

I really like the look of these. Expensive but so much better looking than the tubular ones. Having almost binned it a couple of weeks ago when I lost the front ( roundabout + heavy rain + diesel is not a good combination ) I have been looking into crash bars. Just on the subject, and something that perhaps would be better on a new post, a mate of mine told me, after my little scare, that he had heard that the GTR could be prone to losing the front end. Anybody else ever come across this rumour???

Well, a friend was just in front of me at the time and suffered no issue. I've never heard the rumour and wondered if anyone else had. Never happened to me before in almost 40 years, tyres good etc. Perhaps my suspension is badly set up which might have contributed. Just looking for answers really.
Never heard that one before. For the type of bike handling is excellent on GTR.

Any bike could 'lose' the front end on diesel/water/curves.... Even more so if the tires aren't properly inflated or worn.
The GTR/C14 is not prone to losing anything except the side cases, at least whilst anyone is watching. I've never experienced anything like that. Does your mate ride a GTR? I haven't heard of that and I've been riding a GTR/C14 since 2007. It's the best bike I've ever ridden.

No he was on an R1200RT. I've not had the GTR for long but have hankered for one for years. I am not disappointed in it in any way and it is a great handling bike. The tyres were good though I was within the last 30 miles of home after a trip to France. I did keep an eye on tyre pressures via the sensorsduring the trip but it would appear from other threads on here that they are not always to be trusted. I understand that diesel can be anywhere, I suppose it's just that I wondered if suspension settings can have a major influence on situations like this. Have found settings on the site so intend to check where mine are in relation to the approved or tried and tested ones
I think you have answered your own question, "Roundabout, heavy rain and diesel", your mate may have missed the diesel that caught you out, if he was on a slightly different line?
On diesel, generally, everyone's a passenger

:agree: and as I can think of nothing else that fulfills my needs any better, I intend to keep this one for a while. Perhaps a set of these bars is called for...despite the price
Oh and sorry snowr0 for hi-jacking your post

jayjay, the straight reply to your comment that the GTR may be prone to losing the front end is.....it isn't, I don't know where your friend got this idea from
With regard to the fitment if the Kawasaki crash protectors ~~~ be careful, as according to kawasaki they no longer service these particular bars, and despite me asking them if they would fit my own 2016 bike they suggested that I contact my dealer, what I'm saying is make sure they will fit your bike before buying

I'll try and look out the receipt from where I got them last year, trust me I really wouldn't have paid £400 for them!
Appleyards on eBay asking same price this year as last.
But in hindsight................................................ :whistling:

I saw the price at Appleyards but they didn't know if they would fit my 64 plate :censored: and I had some enterprise pannier frames so bought the fronts for £170 I think they was but like the look of the others better I would have probably paid it if I new they fitted

I have a mate who was so excited about his first trip to Europe (Assen WSB), when we rode onto the ferry at Hull, he just got off the bike and walked away, no side stand or anything, luckily his soft luggage saved most of it, however the 30+ bikers who saw it made sure he remembered it for the duration of the crossing
:mfr_lol: Can't believe it was ever mentioned again

I'm 99% certain that those crash bars (as shown on snowr0's bike) were only available for (and will only fit) the original GTR. Owners of the newer version are lucky enough to have a choice of tubular crash bars from various manufacturers all at a much more reasonable price.
Cheers
Paul B.
this afternoon I spoke with my mate at my dealer, he has spoken with kawasaki technical and they will not confirm that the kawasaki accessory bars will fit the later model bikes.
I'm a bit pissed off because I would definitely get some for mine.
It's a big and potentially expensive gamble to buy a set if they wont fit -- if any of you want to take the chance its up to you
ABTW let me know if they do fit and I'll get myself a set
Sure Paul B is right as the fairing lowers / rad vents allow access to a good mounting point unlike the early one where you have to cut holes!
Found the place where I bought them, amazed at what they stock! :-
http://www.kfm-motorraeder.de/cms/original-ersatzteile/kawasaki-motorrad-teile?itemid=123CPS0032
Was Euro 350 May 2015, when the Euro was at a good exchange rate sure it worked out about £250, bit different now.

Same response as I had IMHO they look better and as far as I am aware don't interfere with the fairing and servicing

Apart from being a pain to fill oil as close to the filler there's no other negative I've found yet!
After the weekend worth ever penny, minimal damage

They were on my Christmas holiday to do list too, grrrr

Possibly someone here has a set fitted and could be bribed (beer and food) to let you see if they would fit.

I'd definately have a set of those :ohplease: :ohplease: :ohplease: :ohplease:
I went into Cradley Kawasaki yesterday and asked about the crash bars and service requirements to get to certain areas.
They now charge £66 :censored: per hour labour and if the guards need removing they will charge additional Hours minimum 1 Hour to start my 3750 mile service is due so for this minimal service no need for removal so just be warned with certain crash frames I didn't have the problem with the Kawasaki type snowy has on
