Title: Spare centre stand anyone?
Post by: snowy on August 20, 2016, 10:35:46 PM
Centre stand starting to look a bit scabby!  :undecided:
Reading previous posts sounds like mono-shock linkage has to be removed to get pivot bolts out. Pain in the  :asshole:
At least I can grease and lube it all whilst apart!   :hammer:
So I haven't got the bike in bits for a week when waiting for shot-blast / powder coat, has anyone out there a spare that I could borrow / purchase  so I could get it prepared before removing mine?
Swapping for pre-prepped on would speed up down time?
If there is, and loan acceptable, how would it sound that after change out I'd return it powder coated to the lender?
Just a thought............................

Thanks Debs, just a tad pricey for what I'd need it for, been looking for a while and £60 seems to be the going rate, which is why I thought I'd ask just in case there's one lying about I could borrow.

You could purchase this one and get it powder coated and fit it, when doing so take pics and write down what you need to do to change it.

Then you could sell me yours for half price and I could get that powder coated and change it like you did, then I could sell the one I have taken off to another who could do the same.

Works for me.

😀

That was the plan but without me having the capital hit in the first place, and you'd pay half price!!!!!!!!!!!
If someone had a scabby one around I'd willingly refurbish and return as good will for the loan, then could be used for onward swap / loan as required.

My centre stand is also a tad scabby. (Isn't everyones?)

Given that removing it seems to be a complete pain in the :asshole: I was just going to wirebrush (on drill attachment or similar) then Hammerite mine (at some point in the near future when I have an infinite amount of free time to do all those little jobs I want to do...)

Cheers

If you are still thinking about this, I have a centre stand in much better condition than the one linked to upthread.
I'll take a picture and post it up later today, and find out what the postage would be.

Doebag, thanks, but I bit the bullet and made a best offer on fleabay so have a stand awaiting prep and powder coat in me garage!
Thanks all the same tho', I should have waited a bit but impatience is my problem
So, when new stand all ready it'll be swapped, I want to grease up rear shock linkages, dunno if they are a problem on the GTR but too many in the past have cost a bit to overhaul.
Will post up the process!  :hammer:

Plan coming together!
Ground the worst of the rust / decay off, found a local chap who will chemically dip / strip and bead blast the stand for £5, and a local coatings firm who will zinc coat, then powder coat new stand for £15!
Will post up pics when back, and then will be the fun bit in swapping and dog bone linkage service!  :hammer:

I used my Dremel tool with a wire thingy. Cleaned up the stand and painted it with Hammerite..

If it's of any help this is what I did

8k miles later yep black paint is chipped but the ETCHING primer is still good 😊

Thanks folks for suggestions, like the ideas but still awaiting stand back from blast clean and powder coat, will up some pics when it's done.
Really want to get the rear suspension links off, inspect and grease up as I've  had others go beyond the point of worn bearings, any ideas of the best way to attack and support it?

It's a bit belt and braces but over the years I have used a winch and suspend it thru a garage beam and a trolley hack with a block of wood supporting engine as rearwards as poss 😊

Did anybody end up with a crap stand left over I lost track?

If so and they want to sell it I could be interested in purchasing it to get it done up, then I will offer mine out afterwards.
