Title: TPS - brilliant and your local spanner!
Post by: snowy on August 20, 2016, 08:55:58 PM
I know some folk question if TPS is worth it or not, well I have it on my 700GS, set off a few weeks ago and alarm bells after 100 yards, rear tyre at 0.6 bar!
Never felt it at all in pull off, could have been well iffy if accelerating out onto main road!
Know I've mentioned Taylor Brothers Motorcycles of Haughton near Stafford before, but after being messed about by a main Honda dealer into tyre investigation and repair, Taylor brothers identified and explained why tyre written off (at 1850 miles----aaarrrggghhh) ordered and fitted within two days, and cheapest quote I could find, great guys and respected mechanic (ex Kawa, Suzi and Honda trained!)

plus one for TPS.

I took our fleet FJR for a new rear tyre. Rode home in the pouring rain for about 60 minutes, left bike in garage for a couple of hours, then went to it and the new rear was flat as a witches tit.
Bit of investigation showed a substantial leak between rim and tyre bead, so much longer out on a wet road and there could have been problems. I bet with TPS I would have got a warning with about 10-15 minutes.

Nowt wrong with Michelin's, only had one puncture on one and that was on the GTR. The BMW has a built in Kevlar system which provides a force field around the tyres once you get up to 30mph and guarantees no punctures whatsoever!

I think all Michelinn need a force field to protect them!!

I did say to Charlie on the recent Scottish trip whilst we were on the single track routes on route to JOG that if we get a puncture we were fu%*ed! Then we realised we were on the K16's and BMW wouldn't allow such a thing to happen.

Ironic that........on my 700 GS the tyre that was screwed (well and truly - rusty 1" x 8!) was an Anakee 3
Replaced the same on as bikes only done 2,000......am I tempting fate?    :undecided:

i heard that some Adventure bikers dont favour the Anakee these days TKC 70s being a better option

:agree:
Agree fully, TKC's are a great and competent tyre, had some on my DRZ400, great on the lanes / trails, but the biggest adventure my 700GS will see is a bit of scratching on A roads in the Welsh borders, hence the near road profile of the Anakee preferred.
700GS has alloy wheels also, so not really designed for off road, just the style and riding position of a big trailee suits me.
Don't play dirty anymore, don't bounce like I used to!

:mfr_lol:  .I put TKC70s on the Super Tenere I owned, they are a superb road biased tyre with capabilities for the occasional  gravel road excursions,  the TKC 80 is the twin duro big block knobbly tyre which is very off road biased.

I was amazed with the performance capabilities of the TKC70, it really is a good tyre in all road conditions.
