Having found the location of the elusive Aux power leads from earlier posts but being advised to start a new thread.... Can the rubber boot under the front glove box be accessed solely by removing the box itself or do fairing panels need to be removed too?? bearing in mind that I don't possess the daintiest of little paws
I too am the owner of large mitts, and you know what they say about men with big hands?
Big gloves :mfr_lol:
In answer to your question, Its a fiddle, but I have managed to access the wires within the front rubber boot without removing any panels at all.
Just put the bike on full left lock to provide as much space as possible, reach in and peel back the boot, the two wires , which are switched, will become accessible, they have bullet connectors already attached, my recommendation is to pre make some shortish extension wires with one female and one male bullet connector, and simply connect them, then you can attach your accessories
Voila
Excellent OC, just what I needed to know. GPS just connected to battery at the moment as didn't have time to sort things properly between getting the bike and going on holiday. GPS currently on a Kawasaki mount between the bars but it sits too low for my taste, specially when the blue tooth connection to my intercom decides to play up so I can't hear instructions and have to try to watch the screen which was impossible if the sun was shining over my shoulder. So it's up onto the clutch lever clamp with a RAM mount (more info found on here ) and just going to sort the wiring out properly while I'm at it.
By the way, I assume the aux circuit is fused so I can remove the inline fuse??
it's a switched circuit, thrugh the bikes fuse block, I just leave the in line fuse in place on mine, it works perfectly
Thanks OC. Was able to find them and I can really see the benefit of making up a short extension lead. Have everything I need to make said lead but anyone any idea which lead is positive. I know I've read it somewhere in a manual but for the life of me can't find the info. again.
I have the earlier model GTR so this info could be totally wrong.
On mine, the aux power under the rubber boot were terminated in male and female "bullet" connectors.
The female bullet was the +ve and the male bullet -ve.
I can't remember the wire colours, sorry.
Cheers
Paul B.
Black/yellow is - black is+ early bikes are fused at 10 amp 2010 and after are 5 amp hope this helps
Thanks Paul. After more trawling through manuals and to answer my own question...Black is pos. and Black/Yellow -neg. or to put it another way..as you said...Female is pos. Male is neg. Just read your post Charley Farley so thanks to you too.
Cheers
John
As Charlie stated on the later model change the 5 amp to a 10 amp or if you plug a compressor into the power socketon on the dash/ display it will blow :censored:
pos + will have a female bullet....neg - will be male
Make up your short extension accordingly and you will be fine
Thanks O.C. Have made a small extension which makes life so much easier  Just need to reroute the cable from Garmin charging cradle and put a couple of bullets on the end and " Hey Presto "

Its easy enought to reason out which wire is which. The "live" wire in a pair is always shielded from accidental earthing, so always a female end. The "earth" wire is exposed as it doesn't matter if it earths

I was thinking that too..

Nice piece of advice when you think logically it makes sense
Indeed. worth committing that to memory.
