Title: Heated grip removal
Post by: doebag on August 11, 2016, 05:52:50 PM
Anyone managed to remove a heated grip from the handlebar ?

I have a plan to use the pair from my written off 1400, and put them on my Z1100 [ not that I ride it in winter, but just as an exercise]

The throttle side is fine as the twist grip tube is the same size and the throttle cable will fit the tube.
But the clutch lever side will need ungluing from the bar.
I am thinking of gentle heat like a hair dryer, or possibly in the oven on a very low setting.
Any suggestions

Best way i have found is to remove the bar end, insert a very slim screwdriver  in end and be very careful  not to tear the rubber ,get a can of wd40 with nozzle pipe attached and  scooosh  ito sleeve and  keep gently manipulting the the screwdriver around the sleeve ,eventually the glue will give and it should be easy to remove then ,,,,but be careful not to damage rubber
Hope this helps
Kenny

Or switch them on .  Get them as HOT as possible and using a 2 handed hold firmly twist one way then the other .. repeat till loose .. they will come .. bit like most things if you take ya time  :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :censored:

Well they were off the bike, but it gave me a clue.
I mounted the bar in my workmate, then left it out on the patio in the sun for a couple of hours. Two handed grip through an old T-towel and it is off.
