Title: New tyres
Post by: Trevsgtr on August 10, 2016, 04:22:59 PM
OEM Bridgestones finished at 4500 miles ! Lets hope the Pilot Road 4 GT's last a bit longer.
I paid £255 fitted from TT Motorcycle Tyres in Sheffield also known as Protyre 0114 232 2676 which I thought was pretty good.
Ride in ride out service used these guys before for the FJR and cant fault them.

Don't forget to put a couple of heat cycles through them before you go racing around, had two pairs myself and reckon there the best for my style of riding, grippy in the wet and great in the dry, last set did over 7500 miles.

I know it's on a lighter bike Tiger 1050 but loaded with panniers wife tank bag stuffy sacks galore ... we did just under 4k in 16 days some of it on autobahns ..and NO visible flat spot on the rear ... last set did just shy of 8k .... fantastic black hoops they are .. putting a set straight on the GTR when ah gets it 😊
Hope this helps
ps
They are UBER  stable to wet or dry

But they tend to puncture rather easily.

Cheers BigAlan its about 65 mile from the tyre place to home and I went cross county so plenty of twisties and nice and light on the throttle.
Thanks Wookie the set I had on the FJR were brilliant in both the wet and dry.Newhey to Edinburgh about 4 times and over to Mont St Michel this year with lots of use in between and when I traded it for GTR they still looked good with no flat spot.

I'm on my 2nd set of PR4 GT's..
1st set I got 11k out of them and NO punctures
I could have got more but they had squared off from all the motorway riding I had done.  :hammer:

Got through three sets in really short order. Converted to perelli Angels and no problem.  Hope this does not happen to any body else but too expensive an experience for me.

+1 for Pirelli Angel GT's. Local J&S store have an offer on for them, £199 for a pair fitted. Had them on my Blackbird and Pan ST1300, now on my GTR, good hoops IMHO.

Just got a puncture yesterday on rear Pilot Road 4GT. Either ongoing road repairs (gravel sprayed on hot tar with convey system in place!) or National Trust gravel car-park. Going to see if it can be plugged this pm. Anyone with wise words on repairs to these tyres?

the best place to get Advice on Suitability of a plug repair is your local tyre fitter,

Better be safe than sorry

I'm not a fan of plugging tyres and would only use it as a low speed get me home.

Just my opinion

To be fair pr3's. Was an expensive exercise. Would not chance Michelin after that.

New angels being fitted to mine tomorrow. Would have tried new  metzeler
But they were a lot more pricey. And as you know angels are the best.
