Does anyone have an expert's view on how to wash textiles with gortex or shelltex membranes.?
Thanks.
If I reply as an "expert" of the laundry matters, and SWMBO sees it, I'd be loaded with all the chores from there on!
As a mere novice, I find the NikWax range of wash anf proof products spot on.
If really soiled, pre-wash with soap flakes on a low temp wash.
I agree with Snowy, that's what I tend to do once a year. Refreshes and revitalises the fabric.
Thanks, I have some Nikwax and will start the laundry when a dry day threatens. I always like to ask opinions on things like this in case someone has some new magic formulas or ideas.
'dry day' :mfr_lol:
Nikwax is the way forward ... remember to take out any liners and body armour first and preferably dry them outside on a warm breezy day ( what are they ? ) .. or a cool tumble will do the job nicely. My Rukka kit is 5 years old now and still going strong
I have never cleaned my textiles but I do seem to be left alone......
I just buy new when the old gear gets dirty :mfr_lol:
Actually NikWax tech wash is the way, you can also use a re proofer which needs applying when the garment is still wet
You can wash textiles? I've had mine for over 5 years. Never even thought about that. I figure it gets washed in the rain..
My textiles are due for their annual Nikwax treatment in August, just in time for my September jaunt to the Hartz mountains with 10 other mates....oh yes, I think Moayling is tagging along on his speedy Green GTR ( not as fast as mine though, it's the top sellerie seat that makes the difference) :mfr_lol:

its not so much that they are dirty but after coming home from Austria my wife reckoned that me, my textiles and my base layers hummed a bit, so its in the wash they went with Nikwax. They are now as I ty pe, drying on the line in the cool breeze and sun we have here today in Stockport. As I am that kind of guy, I have washed the wife's gear as well (not that they smelled any better or worse than mine I add).
Tumble dryers!

Tumble dryers!
But what if the tumble dryers catch fire while you have your bike gear inside?
we have now been given a date for our tumble dryer to be fixed
Funny thing is that I tried to exercise the option of changing for a brand new one........BUT they were all out of stock

new gear time!
If your washing machine and tumble dryer are still working :censored:, and you have a supply of Nikwax, then after removing the liners and armour, I was advised to turn the jacket and trousers inside out and was told to dry them that way. A lot of the modern textiles have special coatings on the exterior, or have
" technical" material finishes. By turning them inside out you protect the surface from wash drum and tumble dry abrasion
