Been suffering pins and needles in me right / throttle hand for years, motorbike, pushbike or in bed!.
GTR and GS1200 have been the best at keeping it away, VFR800 and Tiger 800 have wrecked me previously although silky smooth! :censored:
Sure seat height / bar position / glove fit / jacket pressure all come into play! :undecided:
Anyhow, after two steroid injection into the hand, worked short term, Doc referred me to hospital, who are adamant I should have the op to rebore and de-coke the tunnel!
OK, it hurts when it kicks in, but if it ain't broke..............
Anyone out there had it done? Whats the verdict? Worth the knife? :help: :ohplease:
I know a bloke who had it done..........stopped him polishing his rocket......for a while :mfr_lol:
Sorry snowr0 couldn't miss the chance.
How long are you likely to be recovering if you have it done ?

I can handle a few days of work but loosing that ability..............
Sorry......had to run with that! Here we go, thread level is on the slippery slope again!
Didn't ask! Told that it's only a 10 minute job, local anaesthetic in the wrist............just a small prick........I know! :whistling:
Dominant hand, so guessing a couple of days, dunno!
googling it found this.........
https://www.rcseng.ac.uk/patients/recovering-from-surgery/carpal-tunnel-release/documents/Carpal%20Tunnel%20Release.pdf
Scary stuff! one to two weeks off work.......can't see that meself........more importantly - how long off the bike?
If you need it doing get it done otherwise it'll niggle you for ever.

:agree:
My wife had it done on both wrists (not at the same time). She recovered from it fairly quickly.
I don't know anyone who has suffered with Carpel tunnel syndrome but I suffer with Raynaud's phenomenon though.
Even though I wear gloves, when it goes cold my fingers go completely white. Stress brings it on which also drives me mad. Also a slight vibration in the bars can also bring it on. It does my head in but nothing I can really do about it.
My experience -
Different procedure but in through the wrist (not one off the wrist !)
I had two stents inserted, one through the wrist, the second one was put in through the groin, the surgeon stabbed around in my wrist for what seemed like ages they said to me "sorry I can't find a vein" that was in January, okay I do have to lift 20litre containers full of oil, but every now and then I get a twinge of pain fly through it, my guess is it was damaged with all the poking around.
Not trying to frighten you just telling experience.
I agree with the wolf, if it needs doing get it fixed, it'll only get worse.
Yep had both done years ago..............it can come back........but so far all ok.
It's when you loose yer grip on anything you hold without realising that your grip is relaxing then it's time to get it sorted.
Done under local through the palm of each hand.
And don't let it go too long or permanent damage may occur...

OK, that's raised alarm bells! :surrender:
If that's the long term results I'm getting in at the earliest, thanks for sharing!

sounds like you've made the right decision there Dick
Before they ok'd the surgery on my wife they went through a kind of nerve test to see how much the nerve was pinched. She failed it with flying colours.
I suffered for about 20 years until I couldn't take it any more.. I had both wrists done about seven years ago with a three-month interval between the operations and both hands have been perfect ever since.
I can enjoy riding again and I'm so glad I had it done. I had it done in the winter so I wouldn't miss any riding and within six weeks of the second operation I was back on my bike.
cheers.

Good man! Thanks for that, some positive update on the surgery! :sweet:
I appreciate we're all different, as is the butcher that goes in with the knife, but good to know all ok since!
Had me back done at the Nuffield, Wolves 4 years ago, best thing ever, decompression of ruptured disc, been fine since!
just hope I can plan it like yourself, get it done in the dark months.

Jeez Debs, that sound worse than what I suffer! Stress induced also, T.F. I don't suffer with that?
I appreciate what you say about slight vibes, my old VFR800 VTEC, great little bike, smooth as silk, but somehow that really set me off with hand pain!
Have you tried "Grip pups"? They work a treat for me!
Jf you want to try some Grip pups Debs I took a pair off my bike which you can have
I may be wrong (as I often am) but I think Debs already has Grip Puppies on her bike

Okey Dokey, The offer is open to anyone. They were on my bike when I bought it but having small hands I didn't get on with them.

That's it, helmet polishing on hold for a while!
So is driving....gonna drive me mad!
No-one told me pre-op that shouldn't drive till stitches out....10 days....yeeeeeooooow!
Operation was easy, 10 minutes, but off to see daughter in Edinburgh next week....all booked as it's her birthday.......now I can't drive. :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored:
I hate dropping stuff like that on Jen, 4 - 5 hours - 280 miles!
What's worse....I gotta sit there....not making any comment....or sharp intake of breath.......or else the wrath of a scorned woman will be upon me!
And what's even worse it's taken me 10 minutes to type this using me left hand....aaaaaarrrrrrggggggghhhhh!
But just think how strong you will be once its all healed up snowy
