Title: Beowulf Rad Protector.
Post by: GTRpilot on June 29, 2016, 04:28:44 PM
Arrived today to fit '07 - '16 GTR 1400. No fitting instruction's.
Has anyone got one fitted? Is there anything needs removing before I fit it, plastic's etc, (Apart from the bottom Rad bolt), or does it fit straight on.
On first observation's,
It's straight, my rad's curved.
The horn and the small plastic yoke above the horn that its bolted to, are very close to the Rad at the top. So is it a case of "persuading" the guard to fit behind it against the rad?
Any  :help: or advice greatly appreciated before I do my usual hamfisted attempt and bend or break something.  :whistling:

Hmmm I have a rad protector from R&G and it's shaped exactly like the radiator and it's plain to see how it fixes on, the bolt at the bottom and two fixings at the top.

Suggest you investigate with the supplier.

Mines a Beowulf...just hook it over the top of the Rad, and fasten it to the bottom where the bolt is....I don't recall it being anything more than that...it really is that easy

Had a quick go, horn appears to get in the way as does the small plastic yoke that the horn is bolted to. Almost touches the Rad, which is curved, the protector is straight  :sweatdrop:

The protector should follow the curve of the Rad, ...are you sure you have the correct one for your bike ?

Just checked mine again to make sure... it simply hooks over the top of the Rad and is secured with one bolt through a plate bottom right and a clip with two smaller allen bolts bottom left as you look at the front of the bike

Hope this helps

Mine came flat from Beowulf and I had to bend it to the shape of the rad.
It was quite easy to do.

This is the one I received, it's straight no curve at all. Looking at the package the number on it is K024 and on the invoice K024L so that may be the issue. But it states to fit GTR1400 2007 on. I won't be bending it to fit, that;s the suppliers job.

Well it looks just like mine, my Beowulf invoice states K024.

Ring them up and ask them why its not shaped, in the past I have found Beowulf to be very good at looking after their customers

Keep us informed please

As Debs said, bend it yourself is the order of the day, and the beowulf advice. Should of just sent me a solid sheet and I would have cut the slots as well  :whistling:

Jono, after meeting up and chatting about rad guards, and with memories of a busted Varadero rad thanks to scalpings, bought myself one to.
Just fitted it, used my extended 6 pack as a bend former at first, no way supportive enough to get the bend! :embarrassed:
Over the thigh, bit in the middle,  :hammer: then left and right, jobs a god 'un!
Must say that their measurements are pretty darn spot on.
Fitted twin horns (fiamm style) on mine previously, no issues at all.
If you need a bit of encouragement, pop down and it'll get done over a brew!
Right, needs a fender extender...........which one..........new post time!

Update on Beowulf....
Ordered a rad guard from them on Tuesday morning - it arrived today. Can't fault the speed of delivery, packaging or the quality of their kit, and it IS pre-shaped.

Not sure if the top is the bottom or the top though, but haven't really looked yet.  Anyway, top rate response to an order.  Thought it was worth sharing some good news :-)

Fitted a dream, and as OC said, just hooks ok and bolted at the bottom. Easy.
May seem a silly question though but do other people's bikes run hotter with the guard in place ? Mine without it fitted was running below the halfway to hot mark, and with it fitted is sitting 3/4 to hot ?

no noticeable difference with mine,

I had Beowulf gaurds on previous GTRs and I didn't see ant difference on any of them even whilst touring in heat on la continent
